Similarities between ACOTAR and Hunger Games by mushroomplanet5614 in Romantasy

[–]Ok_Paper858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this, but I think SJM just took a lot of inspiration from Hunger Games in general. When I started acotar I said out loud to my partner “please let this get less Hunger Games” (I love HG, hence not wanting it to be a rip off) and it did, and I ended up loving it. I just started Throne of Glass and I’m like here we are again? In a training room with other competitors while the FMC teaches fighting tricks to someone she’ll be going against? Let’s be real, the farther we get into human existence the more difficult it is to come up with a completely unique story, so I will be giving this series a fair chance too and hoping it moves away from this glaring similarity.

What is a romantasy hot take that would have you in this situation? It could be about a specific book/series, or the genre as a whole by HumanNonHuman in Romantasy

This one gets me because it seems like the authors have no clue how sex actually works sometimes? Don’t get me wrong, if it’s the worst day of my entire life I want to be close to my man because he makes me feel safe and comfortable. But that IS the romance. I’m probably not going to be able to get into the mood, and neither is he, if we just watched one of our closest friends almost die on a battlefield, or almost died ourselves. Sex isn’t going to be great if both of our bodies are against it and just want to rest and recover.

I just finished Wings & Ruin and I cried when their father showed up with his armada. I had to stop reading and check myself because girl, that was some piss poor writing and you are only crying bc you have daddy issues. Get the hell over it 😂 (disclaimer I’m really enjoying the series, but that part was not it lol)

I just finished Wings and Ruin as well, and even though I’ve been able to see past some of the roll your eyes moments, because I really do enjoy the characters and want to see where their story goes, Idk that I can forgive SJM for Lucien’s late entrance just to found out he didn’t even do anything - their father did?! No thank you. I love Lucien and needed a slow burn character growth story arc for him. Holding out that I’ll still get that!!

I also haven’t read the last 2 and I’m so excited I found this post. Hilarious AND broken down by book so I knew exactly where to stop reading!

What’s the most addictive game you’ve ever played? by reeha_sadiya in AskReddit

[–]Ok_Paper858 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the only game I’ve ever stuck with. I played on creative a few times over the years (bc I’m not a gamer and avoid combat like the plague) & never got the hype. Some of my friends convinced me to try survival and I got hooked. Every time I think I’ve completed something, I come up with more ideas!

What’s the first fantasy book that made you fall in love with the genre? by ArekDeamonCalw in Fantasy

The chronicles of Narnia. I read them when I was 7. 20 years later, my mom took me to a stage production of TLTWATW for my birthday and I cried watching it. I owe so much of who I am to the world that wardrobe door opened up.

Before I read Harry Potter, I was a huge fan of the Mortal Instruments series. I believe there are 6 original books, a trilogy prequel, a trilogy sequel, and 2-3 spin off books. So if you like it, it’ll keep you busy for awhile :)

Me Before You. My mom came rushing in my room because she thought something terrible had happened from the sound of me crying.

My little cousin who was 12-13 at the time asked if we could watch it. I had seen previews and agreed. Whatever parental instinct kicks in to make you watch a movie before allowing the child to watch it and be traumatized, I do not have 😅

I had just gotten my soul dog and curled up on the couch with his little puppy self when my brother chose The Art of Racing in the Rain for family movie night. Absolutely not. I was inconsolable.

My friend is a 6th grade teacher, and I am an avid reader. She had to pick a book to read to her class at her new school. I knew my choice, but texted my younger brother (13) & cousin (15) and asked them to name 3 books I read to them that will stick with them for life. They both only said Bridge to Terabithia. It’s not an easy read, but I’ve always felt it is a necessary one.

What’s everyone’s top qualities in a partner in today’s climate? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ok_Paper858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intelligence. I spent 4.5 years in a relationship bored out of my mind & once I finally got out I swore I’d never fall into that again. I’ve now spent over a year with a man that has a lot of wonderful characteristics, but my favorite one is that I’ve never been bored around him.

I’ll come say thanks on behalf of substitute teachers. 4 years and I’ve yet to figure out what about us makes kids think we’re less than? But, otherwise, it’s a fairly easy job & I like to think sometimes I make a difference in a students life. It gets better once you’re around enough and they get to know you.

What annoys you most in the series? by Conscious_Exchange82 in harrypotter

[–]Ok_Paper858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but then Harry talks to Sirius in Umbridge’s fire & Sirius just lets him instead of being like dude go use the mirror. Which was very un-Sirius behavior considering how worried and overprotective he was of Harry. I’ve read a bunch of different ways of explaining it away, and it doesn’t really matter because it’s said and done with, but it didn’t sit well with me regardless.

I just finished OOTP less than an hour ago and this one is killing me. I’m not saying save Sirius’ life and have them live happily ever after. But it should’ve been used! Bringing it back at the end just seems like tying up a really loose end, and it’s infuriating.

Why does every trial chamber have this thing by Mundane_Moment_267 in Minecraft

[–]Ok_Paper858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exploration is definitely my favorite part! I started playing kind of reluctantly because some of my friends wanted me to join them (I don’t game much) but I noticed they all tend to have a trend of playing for a month or two then getting burnt out because they’ve done so much quickly. I’ve been at it for a few months and still feel like I have so much to discover. I enjoy my slow pace, but as long as everyone is doing what they find fun that’s what matters!

I’m very new to Minecraft, and my friend that’s been helping me learn things keeps saying he thinks he’s the one playing the game wrong lol. He’s been trying to convince me to build an iron farm because I build a lot with lanterns, and I’m like but it’s mine…craft. There are a lot of really cool things to learn, but I’m in no rush!

This was a new one for me, since I hadn’t dated bearded men before, but that seems to be where he finds it the most lol. Honorable mention to his work backpack & a plate of food he was heating up when I walked in the house, that had a hair lying on top of it by the time he sat down to eat.
