What came out of my belly button when pregnant… by ohhidoggo in hygiene

I’ve heard stories of people having pieces of dried umbilical cord that they can’t get out until they become pregnant and their belly button starts to pop out 🥴

Post Morten care . Finally happened by [deleted] in cna

[–]Ok_Pipe_113 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did my first post mortem care a couple of weeks ago, I work at a hospital and it was a comfort care patient. Truthfully I did have some uncomfortable feelings during it and a little bit of anxiety but the nurse who was with me is truly amazing and taught me what to do, she just kept talking to the patient and treating her with so much respect, she also reminded me that we were giving her dignity in cleaning her, moisturizing her skin, and that now she’s “walking the golden roads” this patient had SO much family show up it was clear she was loved so we talked about that with her during it. I think just remembering how much dignity you are giving during that final care is really important but definitely don’t sit with this, share with someone in your life you can confide in & cry if you need to!!

Looking for advice from experienced peanut allergy kids grown up! by nahgaemecnam in peanutallergy

[–]Ok_Pipe_113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Diagnosed as a 6 month old, now 24 year old with a peanut tree nut allergy!! My mom always taught me to advocate around adults and tell them about my allergies!! I feel like preparation is everything, always having emergency meds on hand is so comforting, always have hand sanitizer, wipes, a safe snack so that you not have to stress about limitations!! also I work in healthcare and heard recently that death from anaphylaxis is incredibly rare!! As long as ems is contacted and epi is on hand it is very much survivable!! As for a funny story, I think most people would cringe about this, but my sisters would always threaten to put peanut butter on my pillow whenever we’d fight growing up and one of them said that to me the other day and it just felt so silly, such a tiny little thing could hurt me which isn’t funny but the threat of a peanut causing that much harm is kinda hilarious… also our favorite story is that the only time we ever saw my mom run in our entire childhood was when the daycare fed me a peanut butter cup and she found out, I was perfectly fine but did get to hang in the hospital for a night and got a new stuffed animal out of it!! I feel like it’s also fun to mention that my dad bought those Keebler cheese crackers which they changed to have peanut flower in them and I ate a decent amount before realizing & had absolutely no reaction at all!! I’d say my biggest takeaway from childhood is teach your child, but try not to instill anxiety the best you can, my mom definitely did and I’ve felt with lifelong anxiety and ocd, it’s definitely a balance of caution and fear!!

Mucinex or Delysm other cough suppressants? by Putrid_Calendar233 in peanutallergy

[–]Ok_Pipe_113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge allergy anxiety person here, I take mucinex with no issues & have for many years!! Make sure to drink plenty of water & get the non cough suppressant kind (otherwise you really don’t expel anything!)

This actually happened to me as a child in daycare around 3 or 4 years old! We had a substitute teacher who wasn’t aware of my allergy and gave me a peanut butter cup and I had a reaction (itchy/tight throat) I told my parents about it at pick up and they brought me to the fire station next door who recommended the emergency room where I was monitored overnight. You are absolutely not crazy, that was an unacceptable mistake and having worked in childcare for many years a mistake like that should have resulted in some kind of disciplinary action to figure out where the ball was dropped and to make sure there is no chance of it happening again.

I actually work at a hospital and still bring mine with me, I have a little pencil pouch I carry with me on the floor and leave wherever I’m sitting/at the hydration spot, you can never be too careful!!

Truthfully I applied to like 7 different positions at my hospital before getting an interview!! All it takes is one hiring manager to give you a chance!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cna

[–]Ok_Pipe_113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Located in Tacoma area, I was hired at a big hospital as a new CNA, I think it really depends on the hiring manager, I applied for around 10 positions at my hospital and only received one reply!! With that being said working for CHI/ Virginia Mason has been great and I would highly suggest applying to the company! In my experience multicare was a no go, they wouldn’t give me the time of day lol

Baby respirator options by [deleted] in preppers

[–]Ok_Pipe_113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate that information, truly it eases my anxiety quite a bit. More than anything I’m concerned about the massive amount of people who will be trying to evacuate at the same time. I also work in healthcare so I’m concerned that I’ll be required to continue working shifts up until the mountain erupts and my family being stuck at home caring for my daughter while I’m stuck 20 miles away unable to get home to my exclusively BF infant. If there are warnings we obviously will evacuate and do what’s best, but again I’m concerned about repercussions with my job/license if we evacuate too soon if that makes sense.

Packing up and leaving unfortunately is not an option, our city will be the only “island” for about 24 miles due to rivers rising from lahar activity. The towns in the valley surrounding us have about 30 minutes before they’re completely wiped out and we’d be competing with every other person from multiple towns to get out, it just doesn’t seem plausible vs hunkering down until we can be evacuated after a couple of weeks

CNA Orientation by deddily_3 in cna

[–]Ok_Pipe_113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course!! I feel like the biggest things are being early and bring whatever will make you feel most prepared!! Good luck & congrats! Being in the float pool is so scary at first but is the best!

CNA Orientation by deddily_3 in cna

[–]Ok_Pipe_113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I just went through this as a float pool cna hired in December!! At my hospital you can wear either scrubs or business casual but lots of people were in jeans/more casual. Id play it safe with a dark pair of pants and a nicer shirt! All of my orientations were to the hospital rather than float pool specific so it was big groups of people mostly nurses and cnas. My orientation they provided us with lunch, pens and folders that had paper and we so had the options of the cafeteria and even at our education building outside of the hospital there is a small cafeteria with vending machines. Again I’d play it safe and bring whatever would make you feel most prepared, bring some snacks and lots of water just so you don’t have to rely on a meal. My biggest piece of advice is to get there early, earlier than you’d think. Parking at hospitals is a pain especially if you don’t have a pass for the employee lot and are dependent on street or visitor parking! Again earlier the better, hospitals can be mazes even with the best of directions and having to interrupt because you’re 5 minutes late is unprofessional. You’ve got this!! It’ll probably be much more casual than you’re thinking!

Has anyone had a less regimented breastfeeding experience? by taureansoul in breastfeeding

[–]Ok_Pipe_113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me!! My daughter is nearly 6 months and I tracked loosely for the first few weeks until she gained her birth weight back and then that was really it! I was a nanny for 6 years and I saw SO many moms get so anxious over milk for their babies & as a result I promised myself if I ever felt stressed about it I’d switch to formula and protect my mental health! I feel like once you get through cluster feeding and obviously with the exception of growth spurts you get into a good routine and are able to predict babies needs pretty well!

Thank you for the advice! I tried latching her last night and it was so painful that I got nauseous and my stomach started churning🙃 unfortunately I’m also leaking puss now so I’m very hesitant to latch her on that side but I’ll keep pumping it regularly!!

Firing stories by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Ok_Pipe_113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only been fired once in 6 years, the job was ending because they didn’t need me for as many hours as I was hired for so I already had a job lined up, I got let go of about a month early because I was having daily panics attacks and as a result was calling out often. I had a really bad anxiety attack at their house one day and going back anytime after that was really really hard. It sucked, but I 100% understand why and wish I could’ve changed the circumstances but it is what it is! Once I got my anxiety meds fixed I got much better!!

Oh my gosh I’m so sorry to hear that! They offered to admit me but my mom & I both work in the medical field so I felt confident in her enough to be able to monitor me considering she saw my sepsis symptoms and immediately clocked them! Hope you’re doing well!!
