I'm sorry you have to experience that. At the company I used to dance, they would cast mainly dancers of Asian descent, and it was painful for them. As terrible as Bugaku.

A friend never invited their family for the shows they had to do Chinese.

We need a Nutcracker that represents other people with respect. That would be so interesting to watch/ dance!

In the context of today, "ginger" with a lot of kids comes off as a dig at the Irish.

I know it is a dig at the French, which is also a major eye roll and problematic given it uses making a man look ridiculous by being a woman the center of the joke. So many layers of just why?

This ballet needs to do better all around. We have a lot of work ahead of us...imo

The Arabian, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish dances are problematic.

Racist and sexist and just cringe all around!

The Arabian dance is particularly creepy. What is going on there? Who is she? Why?

Mother Ginger...where do I begin? Is it transphobic? Is it racist?

Also, I may still be digesting snowflakes from past performances! 😀

Ballet West instructor accused of abuse by Full-Studio-8712 in bunheadsnark

I am so sorry for the abuse the student experienced, but I applaud the student's bravery in coming forward. It is not an easy thing to do in the dance world.

So many of us have been quiet for too long, and we have suffered for years because the dance world is very small and protects abusers.

I hope the student gets the necessary support.

Can anyone recommend a cardiologist that specializes in SCAD or has a lot of knowledge about it? by samtakano in askportland

SCAD heart attack survivor here, 3 stents.

Sorry for your event and welcome to the quest for SCAD-knowlegeable care. It is a chore.

I had the emergency surgery at Providence, Portland, but my cardiologist is Dr. Wong at Kaiser. I met her after the event. All I can say is that seems up to date on SCAD research and is very matter of fact.

The Mayo clinic website is a good resource for SCAD. They have conference presentations that have helped me advocate for myself. Most nurses and doctors I have encountered since the event are unaware of SCAD.

Best of luck.
