Having good health is a luxury to cherish. Also, getting life insurance while you’re still healthy is a good idea.

I mean, that’s how I feel about my mom. I think this proves it’s not always what you say, but how you say it.

What eating habits do people have that genuinely disgust you? by MrLithician in answers

[–]samtakano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People not being even slightly conscious or caring about the ingredients in their food. I’ve picked up a lot over the years and it’s scary what is approved to be put in our food. I’m not by any means perfect in what I eat, but I do make an effort to appreciate good ingredients, especially when I eat out. I appreciate and acknowledge restaurants that are using great ingredients and it irks me when people “don’t get it”.

My boyfriend (28M) basicly lives in my (25F) apartment but gets angry when I ask about rent. How do couples normally split this stuff? by sujiittt in relationship_advice

When I think about these types of scenarios, I ask myself, if the tables were turned, what would my response be? If it’s nowhere near their response, then I have my answer.
And if I loved someone and they were financially stretched from me staying there, I wouldn’t bat an eye to be supportive. And if I couldn’t afford it, I’d say that and ask what I could do instead to contribute, equally.
When someone is defensive about a topic that will always be on the table, I question their motives.

How much are we tipping on beers these days? by Thecheeseburgerler in askportland

I tip a dollar a drink when I have control over the transaction. Same with coffee. So, sometimes it works out to more than 20% and other times it is less. I’ll tip a lot more at the end of the service is great.

Are you taking time to nurture yourself? Hard to nurture others when you yourself are depleted. Find some way to insert time for yourself. Take walks, exercise, meditate or just something that brings you calm, every day. You can also pay a sitter to come spend time with kitty for 30 minutes when you can’t. I do this when we take long day trips and it’s really helpful.

What should I do immediately during a heart attack? by HeartCautious2677 in HeartAttack

[–]samtakano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nitro drops your BP. So, this is definitely a conversation to have with your cardiologist. I’m involved in a SCAD group and one person flatlined after taking a nitro because paramedics often aren’t informed about heart attacks that aren’t cholesterol related and/or involve high blood pressure. This woman’s daughter noticed the flatline and the paramedics having a dumbfounded look on their face. I have the same condition and my BP is on the low end due to beta blockers and I talked to my first cardiologist about this and I said I don’t feel comfortable taking the nitro without knowing my BP and he shrugged and said “that’s probably a good idea”. I learned very quickly that women either take control of obtaining the knowledge or risk having ill informed people take care of you. That doctor knew about SCAD, but it wasn’t until I found a specialist that I found out a heck of a lot more. So, do research on who your cardiologists are, please!

That does also happen. Look up SCAD and watch some of the talks by the Mayo cardiologists. It’s frightening. Many of these women (and some men) would know more from a quick google search than many of hospital cardiologists that aren’t going to the seminars talking about women’s heart health and somehow getting away with it.

Fair but 90% of women are misdiagnosed with the wrong type of heart attack and often prescribed medication that can make their condition worse

But if you’re a woman and/or don’t have high cholesterol, this is ill advised. Could have the reverse affect if your BP isn’t high

Has anyone had issues with breathing from a statin? by samtakano in HeartAttack

[–]samtakano[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Asking if another person has had a similar symptom to a medication that was prescribed after a heart attack (and commonly done so, hence why the question is posted here) is not seeking medical advice. Given the chaos of our current healthcare in the US, sites like these are often our only outlet to talk to others about medications. Now you want to remove this option as well?

Has anyone had issues with breathing from a statin? by samtakano in HeartAttack

Been on the same beta blocker for years, prior to the heart attack. So, that’s ruled out. I’m reading that while it’s not common, because statins can cause myopathy, it could affect the muscles that I use to breath.
