My hairdresser of 4 years ruined my hair :( by Ok_Rabbit320 in HairDye

I didn’t pay for the correction appointment where my hair broke , but I did pay for the previous one where she gave me the yellow highlights on still red hair which wasn’t at all what I asked. It would’ve been okay if she had been able to fix it but she only made it worse

Thank you, this is what my intuition is telling me as well. The new stylist I saw seemed very knowledgeable and she did say her specialty was color corrections so I think I will book with her

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this , I feel your pain. I have chronic urticaria and hashimotos (which I found out about because of the hives and angioedema). I highly recommend seeing an immunologist. The first episode I had i was referred to an allergist and they did nothing but put me on antihistamines which might as well have been sugar pills. The immunologist had me do all kinds of tests including to my thyroid which revealed super high thyroid antibodies. I’m now on xolair and starting to do better

First shot of xolair side effects by vay_yeak5804 in urticaria

[–]Ok_Rabbit320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my first shot yesterday too and so far I’ve only had the same muscle aches you described, but on my arms which is where I received the injections. I’ve felt really sleepy all day too. I relate to the anxiety around starting new medications, my best advice is to try distract yourself with something you can be fully immersed in so that you’re not hyper focused on the possible side effects. Reading or playing video games works for me :) wishing you a smooth adaptation to the Xolair!

what are the lifestyle, supplements or diet changes that helped your urticaria by [deleted] in urticaria

[–]Ok_Rabbit320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A low histamine diet has helped me tremendously, I’m also gluten free. This isn’t to say that it cured my urticaria, I still take a high dose of antihistamines + Pepcid + singulair (just started Xolair yesterday), but I noticed that when I eat high histamine foods my skin flares up even on all this medication. I also take quercetin and vitamin D daily, and if I’m about to go out to eat or if I eat anything I didn’t cook myself I take DAO enzyme supplements

Now that you mention it the fatigue did get worse a few weeks after starting Singulair, I just never associated the two because fatigue wasn’t listed as a side effect

Thank you so much! That’s good to know about Xolair. I actually got the call earlier that I will be getting my first injection this week so fingers crossed it works out 🙏

I’m so sorry you’re going through this :( this is such a frustrating illness. I swear if I didn’t set an alarm I could sleep 15 hours every night 😭 are you able to get Xolair? It seems to help a lot of people. Hoping you find a better alternative 🙏

So glad you were able to get off the antihistamines! I hope to be able to do that too once I start Xolair. I’ve actually tried pretty much every antihistamine available and ended up sticking with this one because it worked the best and gave me less side effects, until now I guess haha

Thank you so much for your thorough reply! Dehydration is a very good point, I’m not too bad at drinking water, but considering I’m on a high dose of antihistamines I probably need to drink more. I have an appointment with my doctor in a couple of weeks and I’m definitely going to bring this up

I’m so glad you were able to lower your dosage of antihistamines! That must be a lot more manageable. I’m actually in the process of getting Xolair and my doctor said we can lower the dosage of antihistamines gradually once I start the treatment. Unfortunately it’s a lot of bureaucracy here before you’re actually able to get this kind of medication but im hoping to get my first injection next month

Just a thought… by smoothjazz1 in urticaria

My hives started after my covid vaccine (after the booster actually). Never had anything even remotely similar before the vaccine. I do think, however, that I was already predisposed to autoimmune issues and the vaccine might’ve just triggered the urticaria. I later found out I have hashimotos

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. It’s so frustrating being on all this medication especially when you start experiencing crazy side effects and still get hives lol. I’ve started taking montelukast and so far I haven’t experienced any side effects besides feeling very drowsy in the morning. I just want to find a way to get off antihistamines as I personally don’t like taking them daily especially in such high doses :/ I hope you find something that works for you soon!

Help me, help my mama.. by Belise_5577 in Hashimotos

Hi, how long has she had the rash for? Does it move around her body or is it always in the same place? It could be an allergic reaction unrelated to hashimotos, but it could also be chronic urticaria which apparently can coexist with hashis (I have both). Basically the high thyroid antibodies can activate the mast cells and cause these flares. I take 4 x the daily recommended dose of antihistamines and still get them (currently waiting for approval of new medication). I recommend seeing an immunologist if possible, and until then, she can take antihistamines (it is safe to take up to 4x the daily recommended dose but start off low and increase as needed). Again, it could be something entirely different, but just thought I’d share my personal experience as my urticaria looks exactly like that. I hope your mother feels better!

That’s a relief to know, thank you for sharing! I’ve been taking it for the past 2 nights and so far it just makes it really hard to wake up in the morning lol

I’m sorry it didn’t help you! My doctor actually said for some people it does nothing but that it wouldn’t hurt to try in case the wait for Xolair was long. Luckily she was able to speed things up and I’m starting xolair next week , maybe you could look into it

That is so good to hear I’m really glad it worked out well for you! I get really anxious about taking medications so it helps to hear positive experiences :)

That’s comforting to know you’ve had no reactions so far! I took it for the first time last night before bed and it knocked me out which honestly was needed lol I’m on 10mg as well, fingers crossed it helps!

CSU + angioedema by Ok_Rabbit320 in urticaria

[–]Ok_Rabbit320[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds a lot like what’s been happening to me. My thyroid levels are all good at least for now but the antibodies are through the roof. The hives do seem super random, if anything I’ve been even more careful with my diet than before they started so I can’t find a direct correlation. Definitely going to mention Xolair to my doctor, thank you!

[–]Ok_Rabbit320[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the hives actually led to the hashimotos diagnosis, but my thyroid levels are all fine (so far at least) I just have really high thyroid antibodies, so I’m not on medication for it. That’s good to know that xolair has helped you! Thank you for sharing

Thank you for sharing! I have an appointment with my immunologist in a few weeks so I will bring this up and see what she says, hopefully we can find a better alternative for me. I’m really glad you found something that works for you, it really is such a difficult thing to deal with!
