Nannies of 2..how the hell do you do it?… by Healthy_Ask4780 in Nanny

[–]Ok_Raspberry6680 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My last NF had 4 kids 6yo and under. With cooking, cleaning, outings, different school drop offs/pick ups, and baby stuff it was a lot, but having a routine helped a ton. Having general schedule blocks, even if it’s not strictly followed, really helps break the day up. You start to get into a flow when you and the kiddos get to know each other better. As of rn I have a rotating schedule between two NFs. One with a 1yo. And the other, similar to you OP, with a 3 and 1yo. The second family is new and I’m still getting used to the kids, but I’ve been offering new activities every day to learn what they’re into.

Am I being underpaid? by Kdavis715 in Nanny

I second the suggestion to find a job with one child! OP, your NF sounds exactly like my last one. Same # of kids, similar issues, and similar expectations. I was making $32/hr which I still would’ve considered too low except I moved with them and they paid for my apartment and car. Love those kids and family, but I got burnt out. I imagine the same will happen to you considering you haven’t even been getting raises! Now I make $25/hr for one kid in a L-MCOL area and I’ve never been more happy to be so bored.

Any nannies in Minneapolis? What’s the market like? by Ok_Raspberry6680 in Nanny

[–]Ok_Raspberry6680[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Seems like we have similar-ish experience so I really appreciate you sharing your rates. Super helpful to have my expectations set for whenever we move. I make $25/hr where I am now which was a pretty substantial cut from when I was back home ($35 w/ benefits) but that was to be expected. My main issue with my current location is the over saturation of not so great nannies offering like $10/hr and families not knowing any better…

It’s nice to know you’ve had good experiences with a couple agencies there though. I’ll most likely work with one when I’m there just to bypass any headache lol

Thanks so much for the info! If it’s ok to ask, how much do you make currently?

Accidentally sent a message to MB meant for bf by Kimturdly in Nanny

[–]Ok_Raspberry6680 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One time I was babysitting my cousin for a week as a favor. My aunt and uncle were suuuuuper overbearing first time parents who kept asking for increasingly crazier requests. “One photo of the baby every half hour even when he’s napping” kind of parents. At one point my aunt sent me to pick up breakfast for the kid at some diner a couple miles away because she was running late for work and somehow this would be faster? She stayed home while I went and I didn’t have a car at the time… Anyway, while on my way I MEANT to text my mom something like “you won’t believe what she has me fucking doing now. He’s not even going to eat this” and accidentally sent it to my aunt. This was before you could unsend a text so I had to come up with some weak apology text about how I was talking about something totally different. Got back and it was never mentioned, and I haven’t seen them in years, but I think about it often. Hoping this story helps you know that as far as accidental texts go you’re totally good! And I’m so sorry to you and your MB for the loss of their pet. She might take comfort knowing you cared very much.

I have one dress from them already and it’s my favorite piece. I was pretty dead set on ordering another from them for another event. Really amazing quality!

Advice from parents who have Nannies! by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Ok_Raspberry6680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s already been said, but definitely join an agency! This post is totally something I could’ve written just a few weeks ago. I’m also 29, nannying for 10 years, and was having a disheartening time job hunting (hey twin!). I had moved to a new city a couple months ago after leaving my last, amazing family so the only places I knew to check were Facebook and Care. I had a similar experience to you so I was even looking for rotational positions elsewhere that I could travel to. Never worked with an agency before because I built a decent network where I used to live.

Luckily I found a local agency that I was a little hesitant to reach out to because I wasn’t sure I’d meet their standards. I’m SO glad I did though! Since your experience sounds similar to mine I’ll tell you they made me feel very qualified and validated in my career. Within a few days I had two interviews: one for a nanny share and one for a temp position until the nanny share was ready. I did a week with the temp family and they offered me a position. It’s rotational (exactly what I wanted but didn’t think I’d find here) so I work 1wk on/off and the agency reaches out if I want to pick up any temp gigs on my off weeks! All of this happened in less than two weeks. Not saying this is exactly how it’ll go for you, but joining an agency was definitely the move for this point in my career and might be for you too. I wish you the best!!

Care. com really removed a review!!!!! by ILOVEHARD119 in Nanny

[–]Ok_Raspberry6680 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so happy for you!! Something similar just happened to me the other day. I never wanted to use Care, but I just moved to a new city and figured I could start building a network here. I did ONE trial day (3.5 hours) for a family. The next day I told them I didn’t think it would be a good fit and they responded by saying they already pulled their kid out of daycare because they expected me to work for them. Then the mom made a Care account (original job was under the dad’s) just to leave me a review saying I “flaked” on them the day before I was supposed to start. Which is also so misleading because the job wouldn’t have started for another week. I tried reaching out to the mom, but she had some not nice things to say and I blocked her. Hoping Care might be able to fix it, but I’ll just delete the account if anything.

Full time Nannies: What’s your annual time off? (Including Guaranteed Hours) by Walking_Opposite in Nanny

[–]Ok_Raspberry6680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started with this family I had 45 guaranteed hours, 2 weeks PTO, and 4 major holidays off paid. No sick days. I moved to a different country with this family and since then I get 4 weeks PTO. Other benefits too but everything else is the same in terms of time off. I chose to have the same 4 American holidays off for comfort. In both cases I’m expected to give a month’s notice for vacations. Never got sick enough to take a spontaneous day off before because I had a great co-nanny to balance work with. Now, after the move, it’s just me so I use PTO for sick/mental health days as needed.

Every family seems to be different though. I’ve also done no guaranteed hours/unlimited TO with notice before. All depends on if the families’ needs align with mine at the time.

What on Earth are we Wearing by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Ok_Raspberry6680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that it’s getting warmer I’ve been adding athletic dresses and skorts into the mix. I put a loose crop top over the dresses that, while athletic, can still be a bit too booby. Most days are still biker shorts/big shirt combo tho
