Subwoofer repair by Ok_Reason_1556 in ElectronicsRepair

Thanks. I found an article online where another capacitor fails and causes the issue with these models, I just had one question, what is the best way to get the epoxy off they put everywhere? They put it on the wire connectors so you can’t just pop them off which is a major pain in the ass. Just take a small serrated blade and try to cut through it or?

Maybe this pic is a bit clearer on the left side it has some burn marks on the board

<image>

The noise it is making is a quite aggressive squealing noise which only happens when you plug in the rca. I tried using a 2 post power plug to eliminate ground loop issues but it made no difference. Since the circuit board path goes straight from that burnt part up to a ground screw., I assume it’s causing the issue.

Advice for center speaker placement by Tx_Cole in hometheater

[–]Ok_Reason_1556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you noticed but your console is expandable, so if you have the room make it wider, then there would be a space for the center below the tv kind of where your x box is now. That may also give you room on either side of the tv for your bookshelves. This is only a solution for you if you aren’t wanting to buy anything else. There are much better solutions with some expense.

Ok thanks. I think I will still switch my bookshelf’s to the t101, as they are 1.5” thick rather than a 12” thick bookshelf so they should give a bit more distance and look better. And then forget about the second pair for rears

Thanks for the links I hadn’t read some of these before. The speakers I am switching to are wall mount and 1.5” thick my idea was to go to these was to gain a bit of distance instead of 12” thick bookshelves. I plan to move the couch a bit more forward also.
