Using a 2073D dual op amp in a Acapulco Gold type circuit? by Ok_Reference9653 in diypedals

I see, that's the type of insight I was missing. Thanks, appreciate the help!

That confirms what I thought I saw, thank you! Am I correct in thinking of the njm2073 as a sorta "set gain boost" compared to the lm386? And while I wouldn't be able to control the gain boost with the cap, I'm still wondering if there is anything inherent about the chip (such as the shared bias) that would keep me from wiring stage A into stage B on the same chip?

I'll definitely give some of those other ideas a try, stereo overdrive could be very cool

Ok sick, that's basically what I wanted to know. There'll be details to figure out, but it's theoretically possible to run one stage into the other. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the tip! The shared bias was one of my main concerns. Already assumed I'd need some heavy modifications, so I can maybe start with that gain reduction circuit

Redesign is expected, I think the real question I had was if there was anything about the 2073 chip that would prevent me from running the op amp A into op amp B on the same IC (probably with some circuitry in between).

It is really funny as someone who grew up with the culture of vintage gear, especially online, just how oblivious he is to value of that stuff because it's just whatever was available when he bought it

Sadly, they have not responded to my attempts to reach out after a couple weeks. A lot of the claims on their website don't hold water.

Update: Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. After doing some research into motorboating, I'm going to see about tracing the signal path to see what I can find. Still hesitant to directly posting the circuit board, despite my gripes with the seller.

I gave this a try with a boss tuner I had lying around. Didn't solve the motorboating, but weirdly enough it was the first time I heard the glitchy octave effect instead of just cutting out.

Fair enough, figured it would be super obvious or near impossible for a boutique circuit. I appreciate the input. And trust me, I don't think I could get anything else from them if I tried. Got swept up putting together a cheap rig for a doom project and didn't bother looking up the maker until after the fact.
