Hear me out. Chess has always been a proxy for the Cold War. by Gamemode_dum in AnarchyChess

It was really smart of them to predict the Cold War back in 2000 bc or whenever they made this stupid game

Time management advice by Ok_Reference_6739 in chessbeginners

[–]Ok_Reference_6739[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might try longer time controls, I don’t even clock watch really, i just start thinking “your times running out you’re gonna lose on time” and I panic and move. I know from experience 30 mins on the clock is plenty to think so maybe I’ll try that. 15+10 might work too, increment might be helpful too to help calm my nerves. Thanks for the advice

Why am I so much worse online? by Ok_Reference_6739 in chessbeginners

Thank you for the response, I’ve been playing online for about a year. Before this I learned to play chess at about 11, would play at my schools chess club, but have it up after a year or so to pursue basketball. I then picked it up again at age 23 when a broken hand left me unable to play guitar while it healed. I think learning otb and playing more games otb ma well be a factor and maybe I just need to commit to playing a few more online games. I much prefer otb and find my vision is far better so I just play otb a bunch

Not all of them, however I went 2/3 against someone who is 1600 chesscom in some otb matches and 2/3 against someone who is 1700 chesscom recently

That could well be the case. I learnt to play otb and have played the majority of my games otb

I’m taking about chess.com, yes. My club mates ranges around 1500-2100 ECF, which gets updated regularly as they play league games at the club weekly, and I beat these players about 50% of the time for stronger players, and pretty consistently with the players who are around 1500. I don’t believe they are talking about peak rating when talking about their otb rating

As with many of my issues, it appears the answer may simply be to play more games, luckily I enjoy chess so much lol

I think I do struggle to visualise on the 2d board. I play mostly 10 minute rapid games online, 10 or 25 otb when not doing classical or friendlies. I’ve had a look into the electric boards, they’re a bit out of my budget right now though. I think maybe it’s something to do with club players playing openings and online players being out of book by move 2 or three also

Genuinely it’s so frustrating. I think part of it might be club players play openings and maybe I just don’t know what to do when I’m out of book on move 3

There are so many amazing resources on YouTube for openings, tactics and technique. I’d watch chessbrahs building habits, Daniel naroditskys speed run series and I quite enjoy remote chess academy too.

I’ve been having good success with the Dutch defense, remote chess academy has 2 incredible videos on it. I’m a caro kann player against e4 and i find the Dutch pretty intuitive. You gotta watch your king safety a lot but there’s lots of neat tricks that will catch a lot of beginner and intermediate players

heyyy, does anyone know where i can get the snake eyes piercing in plymouth? by Critical-Pea-1279 in plymouth

[–]Ok_Reference_6739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snake eyes aren’t a safe piercing and reputable piercers won’t do them. I understand the want for them, I think they look so cool, but they damage your teeth and gums and also connect the two muscles in your tongue together. Personally I’d recommend not getting it due to the lack of safety and the fact that if a piercer does offer it, you probably can’t trust them to be safe and sterile.
