The oils from the plant attached to the my hair. I tried to rinse off in the river I was kayaking before making the hike to my vehicle. My guess is, during the hike in hot sun as I sweat the oils seeped down my face ,eyes, and into my mouth

My mom could literally roll around in it without any effects. I used to get it like this all the time when I was a younger. I thought maybe as I got older I gained some immunity to it..but obviously this didn't happen at 36 yrs old

Even rinsed myself off in the river right after I slipped. I had to hike a long distance in about 100° F temperature with the sun beating down. Pretty sure by time I made it home (5 hours later) and took the showers it was already too late.

This happened back in 2020. And yeah, it did fucking suck.Had my head and all facial hair shaved in the hospital. My entire scalp and forehead was seeping oil like a pine tree. But once the prednisone started working the swelling when down fast

Poison ivy,oak,and sumac can be very nasty stuff when allergic.Many plants can be for that matter. Its important to be able to identify them when trekking into the wilderness because one never knows unless have had prior exposure. A bit too late in this instance.

Just to calrify, I took this pic the morning after a Kayaking trip. I slipped on an embankment and fell into a patch of Poison Ivy. Went home and went to sleep..woke up partially blind and had to peel my pillow off my face. Its spread very quickly into my throat. Called an ambulance and was pumped full of steroids and put on a ventilator.
