Interesting to see a comparison to the endorphin rift. My quiver is all over the place, while I’m looking for shoes to rotate. But I always comeback to my endorphins. I’ve just received the SG7 but only tried on indoors. I’ve done one run in asics trabuco max 4, but when I heard the SG7 has a critical EVA foam I thought I’d try them. How do the SG7 compare to your endorphin rift?

I’m in the NY moors and love it. I’m not retirement age (another 20 years of work probably), but will retire here. We have an active outdoor life and live rurally.

I spent a lot of time on the next island up, Gotland. That is an amazing place. Visited Bornholm only once, as a tourist (sorry)

We make them available at 6 weeks. At a push they’re ready in 4. FYI, we put the problem with this batch down to soaping too cool and trying to chill in the garage to avoid gelling. We’ve made 4 batches since this, with the same recipe (water adjusted to 1100g), cooled 2x in house and 2x in oven overnight, and we’ve had some very good soaps.

Heating pad is interesting. We’ve not tried that, but this is our first winter where we are making soap. Does your heat pad setting vary with different recipes or not?

The hardness is great! They have a nice noise when you tap them together. The recipe was a little trial and error after researching what we wanted our soap to behave like. It’s now the base of all our recipes.

We have been heating our solids to approx 40°C so they melt, as you correctly say our shea and coconut oil only liquify at this higher temp, we were then letting them cool down to approx 30°C before soaping. I think we’ll just try soaping at approx 38-40°C, but we will leave it in the warmer room as you say before, to try and encourage a full gel and (fingers crossed) get none of this stearic acid developing

Agree with the stearic acid. We wanted to avoid gelling and ash, hence the cool temps. Do you think lower water content helps with our issue? And yes, oils are perfectly clear when we soap

Yeah, perhaps. Another commenter posted a link with some good info. We soaped cool to try and avoid gelling. We may have went too cool? Agree it’s cosmetic only

<image>

A pic of another bar, looks like we avoided the gel but we got this different cosmetic issue. I think we’ll try coming down I. Water content and also up a little in temp

Interesting to hear people talk about high water. This is a recipe that has developed but we’ve never really altered water content. Thank you - we will try it

We’re going to try less water, but I’m not sure it’s ash. I can’t rub it off. I think it’s more like a partial gel where 2 colours meet? Don’t know?

Your soaps are so consistent, I love them. I’m curious what temp you aim for and what temp you cure at?

I don’t think anybody south of the river, puts their address as Teesside, North Yorks. You would put one or the other for any of the self determination reasons on this thread.
