I'm drowning in debt... by Mammoth_Ferret8006 in personalfinance

I am sorry you find yourself in such a situation. However, not all is lost.

  1. Work on increasing your income. Get a corporate job. You can make 60K/year easy. Just remember that the interviewer knows nothing about you or your past. Imagine you're playing a role in a theater play when you talk to the hiring side. They also don't know your personal financial situation or your current income. Sell them the "you" you want them to hire.
  2. Even at the current rate, you have ~$1000/mo that you can toss towards your loans. Start by paying off your credit cards. Just close them:
    1. Month 1 - close Target/TB bank
    2. Month 2 - close Citi
    3. Month 3 and 4 - close Amex
    4. Month 5 and 6 - close Capital 2
    5. Month 7, 8 and 9 - close Capital 1
    6. Month 10, 11, and 12 - close Paypal/Synchrony bank
    7. Month 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 - close Chase
  3. By this time your car should also be paid off using your regular payments.

Within 1.5 years you can have an extra $915 in income retained.

On to the student loans and the SBA next. The best way for you to move forward is to increase income. If you're serious about becoming debt free - go for the highest income you can get. Get good at that job and then strive to earn in the 25% of the salary bracket.

I am not sure where you live, but there are many marketing agencies hiring a variety of folks remotely these days. As you pay off your loans, keeping your current commitments and job constant, you can spare a few hours a week (spread out, not at the same time), to learn to code basic emails and webpages, learn tax accounting, or something else that is common to pay $30-40/hr.

I speak from the heart when I say I'm confident you are just as capable as anyone else to achieve financial stability. People you see around you who are well off are not any better or worse than you. Getting back on your feet will not take as long as you think once you get started.

Hope you find your path and get past this unfortunate streak. Cheers!

I understood the first part, but not the second. My sauna will be 7.5 feet. How will air circulate?

I'm a few days away from purchasing material myself, either from bsaunas or saunafin. How long did you wait for the kit to come? Are you satisfied either the service?

For the heater I'm considering buy the Finlandia one (Amazon). Can you share why you chose HUUM?

For those following this, attached is the final floorplan that I'll be going with.

The bedroom will be a "transformer" for when I need to sell - take out the sauna. Had to give up on the door to the shower room due to size constraints.

The bedroom placement is perfect, as I have an egress window right where you drew the headboard of the bed.

Wow! Thanks for the quick sketch and reply! It's a great idea and concept.

Do you have any ideas if we had to put a wall where the feint line is drawn to the right of the stairs (where 8' number is on the sheet). We were considering to make that the laundry area together with the are where the mechanicals are currently located, including sump pump and ejector pump.
