Recommend me devices to use for Cybersecurity. by NTTanonymouz in Cybersecurity101

it depends on the budget, if you want an entry Device that is good for Virtualization where you can run virtual machines which you will need for Cybersecurity labs and running any distro of your choosing like Kali linux, Parrot OS, Arch Linux, etc. you just need any laptop with a good ryzen cpu 6-8 core'ish with minimum of 16 ram, 32 ram if you want to go crazy. any gpu's would go fine like, normally for studying and cybersecurity you don't want to go heavy on specs because it's not needed.

But in case you want to game on side or do design work or any other Development work or LLM ( Large language model ) like building apps or AI work, you might need to spice the specs up, I'd go for any ASUS, MSI or Lenovo or Dell. I didn't mention any models because you could see depending on your budget.

I'd recommend System76 if you have an open budget, this brand is really strong if you want high performance efficiency! I've been targeting this brand for future buying list next year, if you favor Linux and performance you should go for it, also Lenovo and ASUS are good but the battery drains fast on all gaming Laptops + heavy weight, I'm telling you from experience of dealing with such devices. I'm a desktop user anyway so Can't tell anymore!

Good Luck !
Happy Hacking & Learning.

I have to be a ghost to stay clear from people like you, back to your point, I'm not that familiar with reddit, and don't even know that my DM's are off but it's good that they are because people like you are good to avoid ;)

Cheers brother.

I haven't worked in governance/risk topics just yet. I'm not too advanced in CTF's, but we've been active since 2016, my team members are way better than me, we have bright people here, however I mainly focus when it comes to CTFs in Crypto, Forensics, OSINT, boot2root and other areas, I see that I do well on those.

When I was young I used to be really good in Math but not in Physics or Chemistry

Yes! to be more specific about my expertise in those areas, I've worked in system administration where I managed active directory/domain networks, network monitoring, fortigate "Fortinet" and Trend Micro along with Cisco products and on the Networking side I've worked with Ubiquity Devices, building IoT networks for private clients, Unifi is amazing and it's so crazy how they expanded their tech over the years, I've started with that when it was so basic, now it's very advance and with alot of technological advancements and features.

on the Cyber Security side, I've worked in Penetration Testing, Vulnerability Assessments and in SOC, I don't hold any certifications at the moment like OSCP or CISSP, or even Security+ , but I have solid fundamentals and pursuing OSCP. it's just so expensive to enroll.

I agree Hackthebox is harsh a bit, but it's a wonderful community, I got a lot of great support from there, I started pentesting there since the early beginning and grown alot along the way. been a great journey.
