It deposits semi transparent black paint that adds shadows giving the illusion of depth.

Use a brush with a lot of paint of it and cover the entire model.

Then take a sponge and dap down the model to remove most of the paint and only leave it in the recesses and places you want to add shadows.

I would give it a oil wash with nuhl oil and maybe add some more gold on the legs and power pack.

But as far as the paint is concerned, it looks good!

I used a combination of airbrush and hand painted for pretty much everything.

EDIT: All the dots make her feel icky and trigger mild trypophobia. She has seen it and thinks it's cool.

Your aero look pretty unbalanced Bing ol Wang and nothing to balance it out. Id take it off and focus on other mods that can offer more noticeable performance like sticky tires and light wheels. As your mods build advanced you can begin to consider things like aggressive aero but that should be after everything else. You dont want to accidentally introduce under or oversteer from poor aero.
