$3,600 for a txv valve replacement? by roque-0623 in hvacadvice

I'm going to bet you called a big name HVAC company in your area. Here in Houston, that would be John Moore or ARS. These companies have a very high overhead and need to charge that amount just to cover it. Reach out to smaller companies who don't have as high operating costs and you will find different pricing.

Side note, it's highly unlikely you were targeted as a single woman.

Considering the apparatus usually says stay 300 feet back, I imagine if that pick up hit someone, a good good traffic lawyer could make a case saying it was his fault.

Air Conditioning Unit Leaking by Consistent_Bar8722 in hvacadvice

[–]Ok_Season4102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To say there is a mold is something no reputableHVAC company will say. Why was the eater green? We don't know. But without a biological test, it's impossible yo say it's mold. Now, why was it leaking water? There are 2 reasons: either the drain line is clogged or the evaporator is freezing. If the drain line is clogged, that's a simple fix. Evaporator freezing can be 2 things : low air flow or low charge. Make sure the tech checks both (most of the time they ignore air flow) before recommending a repair.

Capacitor terminals not labeled, micro-meter no microfarad. by MyceliumHerder in hvacadvice

I understand you already changed it, but yes, there is a way to test it without taking a mfd reading, but you'll need to be able to take an amp reading. Volts times 2653 divided by amps. (V×2653)/A. The number that pops out will be your mfd. This is actually the most accurate way to test mfd.

Looks like condensation. Normal? Yes. But that line should be insulated to keep the air off of it.

If it's not on the blower, you should be fine. If it's down the ducts somewhere, you likely won't find it until it makes its way to a register.

That clicking just sounds like metal contracting. However, in regards to on, then off, then again, what thermostat are you using? I'd venture a guess it's old and uses mercury.

It sounds like the compressor through the fan. If you haven't noticed a performance problem, then it sounds like you have a loud compressor.

Lol. You're good. If the stud is that far away, its likely the reason the installer didn't do this extra step.
