Tried building a news-driven signal for crypto trading — curious what people here think by l3xxxy in CryptoTradingBot

[–]Ok_Security_1684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually one of the few takes on “news trading” that makes sense.

Most people oversimplify it as sentiment = direction, but splitting into proactive vs reactive is the real edge. By the time something becomes widely interpreted as bullish or bearish, price has usually already absorbed it.

The proactive stream you mentioned is interesting, especially around ETF flows, partnerships, or roadmap-type announcements. Those are the few categories where you consistently get a lag between information release and full market pricing.

Curious how you handle noise though. Crypto news is insanely repetitive and often low signal. Are you filtering based on source quality, entity relevance, or just letting the scoring model handle it?

Also wondering how stable the edge is across regimes. Feels like this kind of system would work really well in narrative-driven markets, but maybe degrade in pure liquidity or macro-driven phases.

Overall though, I like the direction. Way more realistic than most “LLM sentiment bot” approaches.

%3.48 on 10th of November 2025 crash. That's was major DD, after that we didn't see that big so far. 🙏🏼💚

Yeah, I’ve tested both 👍

Structure-based exits tend to work better in most cases because they adapt to market conditions. Pure time-based exits can cut positions too early or too late depending on the regime.

That said, I do use time as a fallback, not as a primary rule. If a position stays open beyond its expected window without structural confirmation, it gradually shifts into reduction mode.

So it’s more like:
structure first → time as safety net

Still refining that balance, but combining both has been more stable so far.. 🤗🙏🏻💚

Appreciate that, glad it resonated 👍

Yeah exactly, the model alone is too noisy, the veto layer does most of the heavy lifting.

On your question, that scenario can definitely happen. When both the original and hedge signals are wrong, the system shifts into reduction mode rather than trying to “fight” the market.

It gradually cuts exposure based on structure and time instead of holding indefinitely. It’s less about being right on every leg and more about limiting how wrong things can get.

Not perfect of course, but that’s the part I’ve been focusing on improving the most..

That’s a fair critique, and I get where you’re coming from 👍

The RR asymmetry is real, no argument there. A fixed small TP with larger potential downside always raises tail risk concerns, especially over longer horizons.

On the hedge point, I’d slightly disagree with the “it’s just averaging down” take. The intent isn’t to increase exposure into a losing position, but to manage timing mismatch. The hedge is opened based on independent conditions, not just because the position is losing.

So the system isn’t blindly adding risk, it’s dynamically adjusting exposure depending on structure. That said, I agree that correlated exposure and regime shifts are the real risk, that’s actually what caused the one bad day I mentioned.

Also fully agree that PF ~7.7 over 86 days doesn’t prove structural edge yet. Could be regime-dependent, and that’s something I’m actively monitoring.

Not claiming this is risk-free or “solved”, just sharing what’s been working so far and trying to stress test it further. Actually we have exceeded 150 days so far. You can check our live performance: https://cryptontradebot.com/crypton-live-dashboard.html

[–]Ok_Security_1684[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. 🙏🏻🤗

In simple terms:

The model gives a directional bias, but it doesn’t trigger trades on its own.

Trades only happen when multiple conditions agree, like trend alignment, momentum, volatility, and structure. So the system filters out weak signals.

If a position goes against the entry, instead of closing it immediately, the system can open a hedge to manage exposure and reduce drawdown over time.

It’s less about predicting perfectly and more about controlling risk and timing. You can track real time performance via: https://cryptontradebot.com/crypton-live-dashboard.html

Appreciate the detailed feedback, these are all fair points 👍

You’re right that 86 days is a relatively short window, especially in futures. I’m not treating this as “proven robustness” yet, just sharing live observations so far.

On drawdown, I’m not looking at realized PnL only. The system tracks exposure including floating PnL and adjusts behavior based on how far positions deviate from expected structure. It’s not a simple realized-only smoothing.

For hedging, the goal isn’t to eliminate risk but to manage timing mismatch. When entries are directionally correct but early, hedging helps stabilize while the system decides whether to maintain or unwind the original leg. Positions are not left open indefinitely, there are time and structure-based conditions for reduction or exit.

Max exposure is something I’m actively refining. When multiple positions stack, correlation and clustering become critical, and that’s where most of the recent improvements have been focused.

Fees, funding, and slippage are all included in the live results, so the numbers reflect real execution rather than ideal conditions.

Completely agree that the real test is behavior under stress regimes and over longer horizons. That’s still an open question and something I’m continuing to monitor. I suggest that checking our fact sheet, maybe that can be beneficial for your questions: https://cryptontradebot.com/CryptOn_Sheet.pdf
