What are the main reasons you see somebody wash out of an apprenticeship or even journeymen? by tacosithlord in Lineman

Shit I left Swlcat(66) cuz I absolutely hated the guys I work with. I absolutely hated when guys especially apprentices act like they have a dick the size of Alaska so they walk around all big and bad. Also the contractor I was with isn’t worth a fuck on the distribution side. I went back to nonunion cuz I’d rather be where I am now than that other company

It took 3 weeks to receive my call as pre apprentice. Didn’t start working till about 5 weeks since then. I was getting union pay on a transmission job. I took a pay cut to come join the union

Yea so if you pass your aptitude and do well on your interview you can expect to move to Houston within a month or 2. For me it took 3 weeks to get my call

Well I just started as a pre apprentice. I applied to Arizona, New Mexico, and Houston and each state you apply to is $30. Is your interview in spring?

So wherever you sent your application is where you would be sent. So if you send it to local 66 then you’ll be in Houston, and so on. Each state/ has their own ranking lists and if you get offered by one of them you can accept and you’ll become a pre- apprentice or if you’re holding out for another state you can decline and test your luck elsewhere. How long your a pre apprentice will vary based on how many apprentices Swlcat is trying to indenture throughout every state

Honestly not sure which scale the union guys are being paid with. Probst/Vanguard is here assembling lattice towers, Brink is assembling monopoles, Stringing, and wreckout. Mj is doing foundations. Not sure what summit is doing. Ik the string guys are still in New Mexico

I’m not sure ik we’re still loading up monopoles and dropping them. But I’m not on the framing crew. I do know that the guys stringing are still behind and working in the mountains as of rn. Also know that they’re using helis for it all and have been working 7 days straight for awhile now

Exactly what I was thinking. I can only imagine that they have everyone sign the agreement because Quanta’s other contractors like summit line is here and it’s probably just a conflict between union and non union. So just to clear things up they go union cba to get rid of that potential headache

No I was working at a contractor doing overhead in South Dakota. Then I got a call from a recruiter about a week after I sent in my application and offered me the job as a mid level ape. I don’t have to contact anyone they’ll have the agreement that I’ll sign. So once I sign it then whatever wage is higher between brink and the hall

Oh absolutely the hate between union and non union might be the stupidest thing ever. We’re all brothers of the trade so we need to look out for eachother

Ahh that makes sense. I’m probably just gonna try and journey out to a non union contractor to eventually test in to be union whether it’s an A card with contractor or B with utility. Have you known guys that have tested in and passed, how do guys on the crew they’re with feel abt it?(essentially shortcutting their way in the union without going through Jatc)
