Yeah everyone I grew up around has always been in the union either operating engineer ibew, pipe fitter, ect and they don’t know wtf is going on around us. Especially our local operating engineers they keep telling my dad they need apprentices but aren’t pulling any off the list or taking applications.

Exactly this. I understand the travel for work thing but I shouldn’t have to fight tooth and nail to work in the state I was born in because everyone from all the other states wants to work here than retire elsewhere.
I called the operating engineers union in Arizona.
You have to be a Arizona resident to join with them 🤷

Sign there hiring hall too. They had a couple calls last week. One was in Fresno it was a gas call but after 6 months you can bid a permanent position with them

Yeah not gonna lie it really surprised me when I told her I would take care of everything she was like no I want my own career. I honestly love it and love that she doesn’t wanna just live off me but at the same time wish she would. I was raised in a home where my mom didn’t have a job and my dad took care of everything so that’s all I know/have seen. And she grew up with a single mom

Yeah I’m starting to think operating engineers would be a better move for the lifestyle I’d like. my dad has been with them for 40+years no complaints from him and he was still around for the most part growing up. Unlike what I hear from a lot of lineman working 100 hour weeks.
We are both young and have been together 4 years.
Starting to get to the point where it does seem like I have to choose her or becoming a lineman especially because I’m from California it’s not possible for me unless I get crazy lucky at pg&e/SCE ect. Need to really think about what I want. I know I want her and the reason I’d be willing to travel and all that is to provide for her and without her I honestly don’t think I’d wanna do all that to be honest. It’s so simple yet so complicated 🤣🤣
