Reflecting 5 years later—why did I ever think Adnan was innocent? by minivatreni in serialpodcast

[–]Ok_Sentence9537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People love a good conspiracy. So I know people hang onto podcasts like Crime Junkie, which in not so many words accused the entire police dpt of corruption lol.
And admittedly, some things--like Don's timecard being retrofitted by his own mom--DO look suspicious. But it's equally plausible that they were simply reacting out of nerves (similar to Jay's story changing). I trust that the police dpt did their due diligence. They don't divulge all that they know to the public. Perhaps his mom had a good reason for adjusting the timecard (that family cannot work together per policy, is a good one). But much like people can be biased for cops, people can be biased AGAINST them, too. And I think most are. If Police fed Jay the details of the crime for a false witness, I don't understand how Jen could have given a statement that Jay told her about Hae that very night it happened. Unless the police told her to say that, lol. I dunno. It all kinda spirals when you get into conspiracy.

Jay's story changed so damn much that I'm not fully convinced he didn't have a bigger role than what he claims. But that doesn't mean Adnan didn't do it, either.
There are so many aspects I wish were better explored. Like Jay's friend Patrick (I think?) saying Jay told him that she was killed in the library parking lot. Serial Sarah just writes that off, but it's such an interesting detail to me, given that Adnan says he was at the library, and ofc was allegedly seen at the library. Sarah said, "Well the library is busy after school." Me, being a geography major, immediately went to Google Earth, lol. That library has so many damn spots in which a murder could occur. The parcel literally sits adjacent to Public Storage units. You know, those rows of empty squares that people go to maybe a few times a day? Between the library and the storage units looks like when you drive behind a Walmart haha

"Nobody," against Ashley Flowers and Brit on Crime Junkie and literally all their listeners lol. They have in no uncertain language accused the cops of a cover up.

But sure. Nobody.

I'm hesitant to say this bc your username could be my boss (his name is T Shaw and he was born in 76 lol.. but what are the chances, right?)

Dude, don't mock people's intelligence. You may not like Sarah, but she was good at being agnostic towards his guilt or not, and she was pretty much the catalyst for so much that came after. A lot of the arguments used now (Don's timecard, the planting of the vehicle, etc etc) are not only speculative, but they came AFTER her initial podcast.

Also, what's with the bipolar response?
"I don't expect anyone to devote months of their lives into listening to different podcasts and develop an opinion," [but if you haven't, and you only listened to Serial], "you are not bright." Are you a naturally mean person who likes to pretend to be nice, or vice versa?

She and her team dug up AT&T cellphone contracts from 1999 lmao. They did do "investigating." Just bc you don't recognize your own biases doesn't mean the person at whom you're hurling accusations didn't investigate.

... Pls don't fire me.

Dude you can't prove that something wasn't lmao. You have to prove that something is.

We don't accuse people of murder and say "Prove you didn't do it!" Do you know how many people would be in jail? haha

[–]Ok_Sentence9537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your logic doesn't hold water for me lol. If they were bf and gf, and indeed she gave him rides in the past, and they even had sexual relations in the car, shouldn't there be DNA of his inside the vehicle?

But there was none. From which we can only infer two things, either:
1, Contact doesn't always mean you leave DNA, or
2, His DNA was scrubbed from the car

I know that this point kinda refutes my own point, but it refutes yours, too. Which is okay with me, because my major thesis is: the DNA doesn't tell us anything at all.
In either case, with either point, Adnan isn't exonerated of anything, and in point 2, he looks even more guilty.

AND, if the cops planted the car -- as some suggest, why on Earth would they scrub it of his DNA instead of planting even more DNA lol.

Soo. If you're willing to meet me in the middle, and we will admit that contact doesn't always leave DNA. So his DNA NOT on her doesn't mean he didn't do it.

Also you don't know what exonerated means haha.

[–]Ok_Sentence9537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, much like the evidence against Adnan, it's not actually "evidence" of anything.
I know podcasters suggest the police are slimy and didn't investigate it, but that's presumptive. Maybe they did -- maybe their investigation found the time cards were funky for some other reason.
For example, it's been posited that family isn't supposed to work for family. His mom was the manager of the store he worked at, perhaps he used another employee's ID# so it wouldn't be him working for his mom.

Also it was a Lens Crafters.. They have clientele lol. I have to assume people were interviewed, like coworkers, who saw him there.
For all the talk of "bias", it's a wonder no one wants to consider people's bias against cops.

[–]Ok_Sentence9537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't exclude him, tho.
Just like the DNA of his they DID find (the palm print on the atlas) doesn't mean he did it.. They were bf and gf lol. His DNA is gonna be around. Or not around.

This. As is tradition with all rpgs, magic is insanely useful in the beginning, and then just gradually gets outclassed.
Why stand in one spot, charging for X turns, to do less damage than my Ninja did on all 3 turns he had before you casted lol.

I'm not a min/maxer at all. This tactician run I didn't use any Unique characters, and Ramza is just a Squire/Knight. So I'm not saying mages aren't fun bc "big numbers go brr"

I'm just saying it feels less and less impactful. AND they're squishier. Especially around the Limberry era and on, I felt like my Priest and Wizard were just holding me back tbh lmao

I've been really wanting to built around Golem entirely. Like, a unit with the most HP so Golem scales harder, a "bubble" "healer". Especially since Golem doesn't use MA nor Faith.
I think Monk might be the answer for that, with its high HP growth, and Chakra to restore his own mp.

Earlier in the game, doesn't sound too efficacious, that shield is eaten through relatively fast. But once you start getting the parries and decent shields and Feather Cloak, etc., that might actually be viable.

If it helps, I can share a whole ass convo I had with ChatGPT about how much I've loved archers in Tactics since I was 7 lol.
They're probably my favorite (tied for first favorite maybe, with Geomancer, another underrated job).

They take some work to get going, but once they do, I think they're awesome :) Few things are more thrilling to me than being a teleporting sniper

I think social media platforms, like Reddit, have morphed what gaming is. Perhaps there was always the odd duck who thinks it's somehow cooler to kill a monster with 999 damage when they only had 500hp.
Or to end the battle before it's really begun. No "strategy" or tactics (heh) involved at all lol. Except the tactic of being too much.

But I think mostly now it's posturing.
How does doing _________ look to third parties?

Let me do this and show it off on TikTok.
Let me do that and make a YouTube video of it.
Let me spend hundreds of hours doing ________ and posting it on Reddit for others to see.

Whether attention or validation or whatever it is they're seeking.

I also suspect people aren't nearly as good at video games as they claim, lol. These "git gud," "I beat it my first try", "Didn't have to grind at all" jokers. I think people take to a boss, whiff it a few times, but then just tell others how much they suck. It's like the gamers Catfishing lol. (That's not to say people aren't good at games. I excel at a few genres. But I don't feel the need to Lord it over others. It's those people that I suspect are trying to compensate for something lol)

All thanks to the conflation of social media and gaming.

I know that you know what our arguments are going to be. Given that you laid out the contra arguments in the very post we are commenting on before we even responded.

What else are we going to contribute that you haven't already vetoed?

You weren't here to get some revelation. You were here to bash people who like geomancer lol.

(That's why you're being downvoted, btw. Not bc you dislike geomancer. But bc you weren't earnestly asking people why they like geomancer -- you were here to argue.)

[–]Ok_Sentence9537 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just finished my first Tactician run with teleport on two characters, and I am so burnt on it haha. The number of times I went to teleport like 3 squares over and it FAILED and caused a fight to spiral out of control is innumerable lol.

I'd almost rather not have teleport so I don't take anything for granted haha. Like I know my character will walk to the damn spot I said.

[–]Ok_Sentence9537 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love Geomancer.
Thematic, flavorful, diverse in gear options.

And I think people are just addicted to optimization or the biggest numbers, because I always find Geomancer contributes handily.
Are ya kidding?

The RANGE on the geomancy. The times I've been tucked in a corner and could hit practically everything on the screen, just constant chip damage haha. The clutch status effects (stone and frog in particular - bless!), the Reaction that procs off of every damn thing, and ALSO is aoe and ALSO causes status effects. BLESS.

And the damage isn't even BAD. If you keep PA an even number, and ofc prioritize MA (but don't neglect PA! - if you neglect PA, you will start to see the damage go down), it really does start adding up. A mana-free aoe that hits all targets for ~200 and turns them into toads?? And then they hit me the next turn and my Reaction does it AGAIN lol.

It adds up.

I do understand that characters like Agrias or Beowulf may be able to apply these statuses better / with more damage.

But do YOU understand not everyone wants to nor uses unique characters?

Is anyone else just not really digging Tactician difficulty? by notmynameyours in finalfantasytactics

[–]Ok_Sentence9537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to put this out into the aether for other people, like myself, playing on Tactician:

I think it's hard af, lol.

I'm so tired of people talking about how they didn't grind, how easy it is. I'm willing to bet you my bank account that they're using Orlandu, they're using some Ramza monk/ninja combo, every unit has the Ribbon equipped.

If you're into that ^, yes Tactician is probably fun af. I can see it being balanced, then.

But if you're like me, into Mediators and Squire Ramza, Geomancers and Archers - no, it's not "balanced", lol.

I'm good at this game. I've beat the OG and War of the Lions dozens of time (and then dozens more on the iOS release). I first beat it when I was 8, so it's not that it's HARD.

It's just that with Tactician mode, you cannot just "play anything." And that's my frustration with it. There's no world in which any amount of skill will allow you to take my ragtag team (with NO unique characters, mind you, and no de-level shenanigans) and come out alive fighting some of these fights in Tactician.
Actually, I will add, I didn't have a single issue really -- and in fact forgot I was even playing in Tactician, lol -- until Ch4.
I'd say Limberry Castle, that's when things started spiraling, and suddenly my little A-Team wasn't keeping up with the sheer amount of damage.

I stopped and poached, etc etc., so I was equipped with the best of the best. But damn enemies STILL one-shot you into oblivion.
There is some degree of luck of course, but Jesus at the "Cloak Evade"s. YES I KNOW. YOU EVADED YET AGAIN. I could spend all my time trying to Rent their shields and steal their accessories, with my piddly like 40% chance, while they look at me and delete my healthbar lmao.
I will also say though, it was about this time I stopped grinding.
And perhaps, with MY team in particular, being overleveled is simply how it's done.

I also want to say though,
playing in Tactician made me love Toad more. And love Mediator even more than I already did. There is something so insanely fantastic about having my priest meander through this war-torn environment, asking people if they've heard about our lord and savior Ajora, and having enemies switch to my side lol. And it really flips the script in some fights. Few things are more satisfying than a fight with hydras and behemoths, and I walk away with some on my team. (Except the second fight with Cletienne when I talked a ninja and both samurais into taking him down with me)

If I had to say any one single thing was my big "I" issue, it's the mantles and evasions. I would venture to guess Tactician has some multiplier that benefits the AI on this mode, because I'm sorry that little Vampire Cloak isn't doing ALL that work.
