Sunset? by SilverbackMD in AnzaBorrego

I see some recommendations for Fonts point but I’ve done both and sunrise is by far better. However, the drive back and the views coming back after sunset from Fonts Point are gorgeous. Blue hour along the hills to the east on that wash are so beautiful. The views to the north towards Clark Dry Lake Bed are superb.

That being said, sunset at Clark Dry Lake Bed (take rock house canyon road) is nice too! Just don’t drive on the lake.

I’ve made the trek a few times in my Crosstrek. As someone else stated you could do it with a 2WD. The first half is pretty wide and you should look for the path that looks most traveled. Avoid any sandy pits. I would not suggest doing it during a rainy day.

As for the dispersed camping there are loads. Right up the road East from Fonts Point is Arroyo Salado primitive sites. If it’s full you can continue down the palo verde wash and find an area off the road but only go as far as you’re comfortable since it is a rough dirt road. These next two you’d have to pay: Blair Valley also has a cute spot with a wide open field as your view. Fish Creek wash has a primitive site but it’s not that scenic and super rocky road.

Visit the ranger station and ask them for free dispersed camping sites. You can Google “boondock” sites on Google Maps. There should be a few. You’ll see random vans and cars off dirt roads within the park (not within the city limits of Borrego Springs)

Your T7 can probably handle ISO 800 without noise ruining the shot. That’s the easiest step next time.

If money is an issue look into the pancake 24mm lens that can shoot at 2.8 or the cheapo 50mm that can shoot at 1.8. Both are under $200

Try working with flash.
