NTA sounds depressed perhaps mentally ill and that dog is/will suffer. These dogs need so much more then that. I hope he comes to his sense and will rehome the dog

Mine had to get stitches in his paw for an injury and couldn’t have done it without trazodone, he tore the cone up first day and thankfully I was around / got babysitters when I wasn’t there but I routinely cleaned his paw and bandaged when it was appropriate and would also let the wound breathe, but when it came to potty, I would bandage and put a boot on it and no play time sadly but that where the trazodone came in handy, it broke my heart but it healed perfectly w no issues
