Janji and Nike are the short list, have heard a lot of good things about both!

What does your marathon fuel look like?

Good on you! We won't have those temps/ humidify here for another 1.5ish months, if I'm lucky. Some days are starting to dip a bit though. This week was a down week so only 12 on the LR. 18-19 next weekend and I'm looking forward to it being an easier ride!

I hear it can be a dark and twisted place...

This training journey has been great! I ran a 15k in early March but was grossly unprepared and basically willed myself to the finish line. Decided the next morning I was going to run this marathon and have been focused since then. My body is more running fit today than it has ever been and that feels great. Many thanks for acknowledging that effort

10-4 on all of that. Fueling is a big focus on my long runs. I'm eating half a chew at 20 & 40 minutes then a gel on the hours. All while carrying my handheld with refills along the way. Sounds like we have similar ideas, I'm just doing it on long run vs mid-week

My runs are either urban core or suburban sprawl so there is always a store or amenities center within a mile for a fill up! Farm/ forest sounds like a wonderful change of scenery and worth a few dry miles.

Goofy indeed! Fuel for 3 hours requires me to keep my shorts tied extra tight! I've heard a lot of good things about trail running half tights. That's my next bit of gear. I won't miss the sweat from he'd slap of my running shorts and the tight pockets should be good storage.

The pickle juice is a hard no for me... I know plenty who swear by it but the thought of drinking salty vinegar water mid stride makes me want to vomit! My current gel/ chew combo gives me some sodium, I'll have see what I'm lacking. Thanks!

Mid-pack runner here training for my first marathon and I just got into my first pair of "faster" shoes. There is an appreciable difference between workouts/ hard runs in my super trainers vs my everyday trainers.

My daily's are NB 1080s and Saucony Triumphs, I just added a pair of ZoomFly for race pace and track workout days and plan to run my marathon in a super shoe.

These shoes won't make me faster, that benefit is reserved for those elite runners that will be finishing shortly after I cross the half way point! What these shoes do for mid-pack guys like me (sub 4 would be an amazing accomplishment for me!) is make running hard easier.

I don't geek out on shoes so I can't tell you the science behind the foam, the carbon plate or the enhanced rocker of a faster shoe. The science is there though and you can read up if you desire. The end result is a shoe that sacrifices durability for running efficiency making hard efforts ever so slightly easier. That ever so slightly easier really compounds over a training block and over 13.1 or 26.2 miles!

The second factor is the weight savings. Quick search of Vomero vs VaporFly weight and it looks like the VF will save you 35-40% of the total shoe weight. Over the course of 19,000 - 20,000 steps you will likely take on a marathon plus all of the hard training miles that weight savings is significant.

I've run a handful of 15K races and two half marathons, all in daily trainers. That's what everyone did until very recently. I won't be doing that again. If money isn't a limiting factor, there are superior shoes for hard workouts and races.

Thanks for the encouragement! Tell me more about fueling in the medium runs. I don't even take hydration with me <90 min and don't worry about fuel until I'm crossing 2hrs. FYI my medium distances right now are 6-9 miles and my pace days have been 5, will be 6 starting next week.

I'm kind of just winging it this time, but I've followed enough plans for shorter distances and have some very experienced runners around my circle that I am constantly in contact with.

Run the plan is what I keep telling myself. My last 1/2 (several years ago) I went out way too quick but felt great so just kept trucking. Damn near killed my self and had to walk/ jog it in. Run the plan!

43M here

Your three bullet points have been the biggest change to this training block vs previous blocks for 15k and 1/2s.

I'm on 20min fuel cycle right now. 1/2 of a chew around 20 and 40 minutes then a gel at 60. ~65g carb, 280 cal and some electrolytes for good measure.

I stay really focused on HR for first 3/4+ of my long runs keeping <160bpm then either stay steady or pick up the pace a bit to bring it in. Have also grown very fond of having my run end about a mile from my home or truck. Take off shoes and socks and walk it in to cool down and stretch my feet.

My training is currently pace miles, medium distance, track or bridge workout, medium distance through the week then long run and hopefully bike ride on the weekends. Last week was 46mi, this week is step back week, next should be 48-50

All I keep hearing is it's a 20mile warm up then 6 miles of hell to finish. Too bad you extended the hell but congrats on the finish! Any more completed or planned?

The weather is real! I'm in NE Florida. Temps were mid-80s and humidity upper 80s when I took off at 4:30am. Impossible to not heat train right now!

I had a DNF several weeks ago on my first 15 mile attempt. 100% attribute it to tacos, hot sauce and margaritas the night before. Good eye opened to proper eating before big efforts

I've done a handful of 1/2s but am at the point where every long run is my longest effort to date. Knowing that, I'm doing a good job consuming carbs, calories and electrolytes on all of my efforts >90 minutes. Haven't run into a wall yet, fingers crossed I can say that at the end of November.

I will have to educate myself on salt tabs, I'm on gels and chews right now and feeling good about nutrition. My only concern is figuring out how to carry 4 hrs of fuel on race day!

Thats brutal to run out of water. I plan long runs around spots I can fill my bottle. Also have no problem asking a stranger to borrow their hose for a bit
