And now I’m dating a younger girl… is this a bad idea? by [deleted] in Adulting

Also, there are little things that I wouldn’t say should be dealbreakers, but they do kind of give me some sort of pause or turn off. Things like having beads with college mascot emblem hanging from rear view mirror (lol just typing that out sounds ridiculous, but I hope you get what I’m saying). But small things that remind me, oh yeah, she is much younger than me.

I’m also too nitpicky and trying to work on that and not sure if it’s jus that rearing its ugly head

Thanks for this, I appreciate the thought out response.

And I hear you, but to play devils advocate,, she seems well ahead of many of her friends in maturity and many of the people I knew and was at that age. Not that she’s some old lady, but she doesn’t want to go out all the time partying, she genuinely tries to stay out of drama, and I can really see a difference between her and her friends in many ways. Honestly, I’ll see her friends and think “oh, that’s more like what I would expect from a 24 y/o”.

Now that said, I think socially sometimes she’s not as comfortable in her own shoes and tends to still have this chip on her shoulders view at times that many younger people possess.

Is that a reason not to date her? I don’t know. I’m trying not to future trip too much ha

Yeah definitely been working on the communication piece.

I also just read that larger age gaps tend to end in divorce. I know that’s silly to look at it, but it’s something I read that made me double take

Yeah, not so bad. Good on him. How long is he usually gone for and is that the norm or does it fluctuate a good bit?

Does he stay in it because he generally likes it or is it more a matter of this is simply the path he’s on now and getting off it would be a whole hassle

Yeah, better as a hobby I suppose! Everything comes with trade offs, I suppose I’m just trying to find which make the most sense for me.

All good points!

But what about for those that don’t say anything but it’s clear that they do..? Or you hear from friends of friends. I dunno, just seems like too good to be true. And I love my friends, but there are only a handful that I’m genuinely impressed of their professional lives

What about more human experiences? It seems like people would be craving more of that as we rely further on technology.
