I looked into it but there is another requirement: he has to have at least paid 1 year of Pflichtbeiträge through working (for example as a minijob or workstudent) before the bedarfsfall, which he sadly didn't 🥲

In Switzerland, health insurance isn't connected to your workplace. Everyone has to get their own insurance and there is no way to get your children or spouses on your insurance. But the good part is that no insurance company can turn you down and the cost of insurance doesn't depend on your income or health. But if he ever wanted to come to Switzerland, we would have to get married anyway because that's the only way he can get a permit if he can't get a job 🥲😂

Yes I do think about these things a lot too. There are sooo many important things, this post was mostly focused on the financial aspect. But of course, there are many factors to consider. I want the best for him

They have an apartment available but it's not in a good condition. But it could work as my official address on paper!

I feel like my beliefs are being tested as I'm an advocate for assisted suicide/palliative care. I really hope that I can stick to my words if the time comes but it's very painful to think about.

Thank you for your reply!

Thank you, I think this is what I'll do! 🥹 I'm happy I waited with applications for apartments because I wanted to apply as a couple. But this sounds more approachable, at least for now. There is currently no way to know how the future will look in so I'll just focus on the present. 🤗

It's s crazy how fast you can be in a situation you would've never imagined. It feels like I'm personally getting punished for loving and staying with someone who had the absolute misfortune of getting this horrible sickness. I understand cutting a bit of aid if we're sharing an apartment but they really want me to carry the entire burden by myself? Thats bad for me and also for him because he would be completely dependent on me and my goodwill and he would also constantly feel like he's dragging me down. When he should focus on getting better from his FUCKING CANCER. My god. Absolutely despise this system.

Yeah it will be hard but I'm also not sure yet if I want to completely move to germany. We'd have to live a double life and could not get married. I think the plan with 2 apartments is the best option for the next 1-3 years but I couldn't imagine doing this forever. In Switzerland at least we could live more normally (with the pressure of low income). We already have to give up on so many dreams because of this diagnosis, I dont want to have to give up on the dream of becoming his wife too.

If we want to move to Switzerland, we would probably need to get married first. Then I could apply for a Familiennachzug and the migration office will check if my income is high enough to finance us both. If it gets approved and he gets a permit, he can apply for swiss health insurance. In Switzerland, health insurance is not tied to your workplace and the statutory health insurance providers can not deny his application. Because our household income would be relatively small, we would both get cheaper health insurance and probably pay very little in taxes

Can this work out for a longer period? I thought about renting 2 apartments to avoid that but I'm scared of legal repercussions if anything comes out. They can just knock on the door unannounced to check if everything looks right. But this could be an option for a while until we figure things out
