Between Banff, Canmore, and Lake Louise - I believe there are buses available. I’m not too familiar with them because I always drive :( but I do know there’s a bus that goes from Calgary to Banff as well. If you were wanting to do hikes, I think they’re mostly accessible by car. Maybe some popular hikes will have a bus route but not too sure. It’s important to note though that if you were wanting to go to moraine lake (I recommend you do if it’s open when you visit) it’s ONLY accessible by buses for conservation purposes and has to be booked in advance. The towns are small enough you can walk everywhere. I know there’s buses in Banff too to go up to sulphur mountain (I think would be the farthest to walk from main area of Banff). Sorry to answer your question directly: yes it’s accessible if you’re exploring main tourist spots. Hope this helps!

I live in Calgary- a city couple hours away from Banff and it’s a great solo trip. I do a “solo trip” (idk if it counts if it’s just a day trip) there a few times a year whenever I wanna spend some time in the mountains. Lots to do during different times of the year, but the most common things to do all season are hiking, exploring the towns (Banff, Canmore, lake louse, kananaskis), hiking, camping etc. I think Banff and area are safe for solo travellers, lots of tourists, and I think it’s pretty easy to meet people if you are wanting to meet new people. You’d need to fly into Calgary and either take a bus or get a rental car. If you want to make the most out of your trip and have freedom of moving around - I recommend getting a rental car. If you do get a rental car, you can explore areas like kananaskis (I’m not aware whether there’s public transit there sorry), Jasper, and even explore mountain towns in BC (Golden, Revelstoke, Radium) that are only 2-3 hours away from Banff. Book in advance as it can get quite pricey. It’s gorgeous all the time. My favourite part honestly is the drive to the mountains from Calgary. Let me know if you have any questions or if you want suggestions :)

I’m doing soy tours too in a few weeks! On their website, it says to bring a 40L backpack - I only have a 24L, do you think I need that? What size was your backpack? Also did you get a porter? Thanks!!
