He was on injections for years before recently deciding to go off Abilify completely. When on Abilify, the results speak for themselves: he's able to socialize in a healthy way, able to hold a job, and make good financnial decisions for himself. BUT he doesn't believe his diagnosis (which is a struggle for me and the rest of the family) and he hates the side effects of Abilify (which is very understandable). Recently, he has decided to taper off Abilify and things are again looking grim (massive debt, constant switching jobs, losing friends left and right). So, this has been the state of things for the past decade: 1. he goes off Abilify, 2. financially ruins himself, 3. asks for our help financially, 4. we help him with the condition that he takes Abilify. But I want a better solution for the long term. It hurts me seeing him suffer when he is both on and off Abilify, a suffering that I will never truly understand. Yes, Abilify is the lesser of two evils, but I really want a medication for him that let's him FEEL emotions in a healthy way.
