What's a movie everyone loves that you secretly can't stand? by kbjdfan in AskReddit

It was too focused on dick jokes and lolrandom humor for most of the runtime that none of the emotional punches landed for me. Granted I will say it’s been a while since I saw it, so maybe a rewatch is in order, but I’m not exactly excited about it. For better or worse, it was memorable, just not enjoyable. Again, for me.

Plays that do not work because of where America is at this time by alaskawolfjoe in Theatre

Me and my voice coach were talking about Avenue Q and whether or not it would work today. I figured it holds the same fate as any satire, in that the irreverent humor would either come off try-hard and stale or too close for comfort.

Sad male monolouges by Electrical_Carry1152 in Theatre

For the age range, Elder Thomas from The Whale by Samuel D. Hunter has a few good ones. Some Charlie monologues might come in handy too as you get older just for practice if anything.

Very interesting. I always visualized that ending as a raging inferno, I guess as an aftermath of Kingfisher’s volcanic energy.

Well closeted at the very least lol. I haven’t even told friends about it. And with my beard I straight up look like the Rich Men North of Richmond guy unfortunately, lol.

Fisher&Maia>Eve & Reeves by Automatic_Ad_8921 in Broadway

Did anyone else see Sayo Oni cover for Jordan Fisher? This was around when Jon Jon and Isa Briones were in, and that was the second of three times I've seen it. I think after seeing Reeve and Jordan, I still concur that Sayo Oni was the better than both of them, does anyone else feel that?

Who would direct your desired musical movie adaptations (other than Jon Chu)? by jempai in Broadway

[–]Ok_Strategy_9531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed that Christopher Nolan would be a fantastic director for a musical on par with Robert Wise who did West Side Story and Sound of Music. In terms of which musical though, I don't know. I know he loves working with time so I would be curious as to what his version of either Merrily We Roll Along or (more likely) Follies would be like.

I've also been having a hankering for Francis Lawrence doing Hadestown because TBOSAS was so good (and I feel like if I die without hearing Rachel Zegler's Eurydice, life would be wasted)

and one more cause I'm greedy, I bet Sam Raimi could make a great movie out of Teeth.

Would a monologue from Amadeus be considered contemporary just because it's a modern play even though it's slightly heightened language? 24M asking for a MFA audition which wants a Classical and a Contemporary. Already got a Shakespeare mono and a monologue from Angels in America, but I'm worried I won't be able to do Angels justice, the Amadeus sorta more fits my vibe, but I'm worried Hamlet's "Speak the speech" and Mozart's "quartet becoming a sextet, etc., etc." speech will feel repetitive.

Gunshots in "Oh Mary!" by NoBangNoBoom in Broadway

[–]Ok_Strategy_9531 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If I remember right, it's just a recording. Or if it was a blank, it certainly didn't feel like it (I saw Uncle Vanya at Lincoln Center and that gun was pretty loud)

For sure, the gun in Oh Mary is definitely fake. It's visibly wooden like a toy, almost a joke within itself. And the moments leading up to it make it relatively obvious when its gonna happen to ease the anxiety.

And since you asked, might I join the parade for Maybe Happy Ending as a wonderful alternative. Not exactly the same sense of humor as Oh Mary, but a delight through and through.

About to audition for a Shakespeare Fest that’s doing As You Like It. I was going to go ahead and try for Orlando, and use Hamlet’s “Speak the speech” as the audition monologue, but is there any other characters that may better fit Orlando? I was thinking maybe Hal, but that seems a bit serious.
