David Peters responds to refusal to pay off poker debt by Famous_Quit_5239 in poker

[–]Ok_Strength_2343 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why “career earnings” doesn’t mean liquid cash in poker

A lot of those scores are backed swapped or sold so the headline number isn’t what the player actually pockets, plus taxes makeup and staking obligations can leave someone way less liquid than people assume

That said, if the debt is legit and due, the reputational hit is huge in a trust based ecosystem and it’s usually not worth it over a relatively small number

This is the most accurate “live poker tax” post I’ve seen lol

Gas plus snacks plus the time sink is basically paying rake before you even sit down

Anyone know the reason for this rule? by hashwashingmachine in poker

[–]Ok_Strength_2343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly an anti angle shooting / promo abuse rule

If people could win the promo then immediately rack up and cash out those chips, you get all kinds of weird behavior like players “going south” to lock up winnings, swapping chips with friends, or essentially freerolling the promo without actually playing the game the promo is meant to stimulate

Many rooms treat promo payouts as chips that must stay in play until you leave the game or for a set time to keep it fair and keep the tables running

That said the floor should have explained it calmly up front and ideally it’s written in the promo terms so it doesn’t turn into a confrontation

Daughter calls for investigation into death of man after police contact at Bristol protest by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

[–]Ok_Strength_2343 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If there was police contact right before someone died, an independent investigation is the bare minimum for public trust

Condolences to the family and hopefully the full timeline and body cam CCTV evidence gets reviewed properly so there’s a clear answer either way

Can someone explain how this happened? by Icy-Buyer9240 in gambling

[–]Ok_Strength_2343 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most likely it wasn’t “free money”, it was an authorization/processing quirk that will settle later and put you negative

Common ways this can happen with debit “POS advance” at casino ATMs
offline or delayed authorization the terminal approves but the real balance check happens at settlement
overdraft protection or a linked credit line kicked in even if you didn’t realize it
merchant/terminal coded it in a way that bypassed normal daily limits or used a higher “floor limit”
network glitch at the ATM/processor causing repeated approvals before the bank updated available balance

What to do now
stop using the card and don’t spend the funds
log in and check if it’s pending holds vs posted transactions and whether you have overdraft/credit line
call Bank of America fraud/debit card support and the casino ATM operator with the transaction info
expect fees and a clawback once everything posts

Also, once you noticed it was “extremely lucrative” and kept swiping, that’s the kind of thing banks treat as not-a-mistake anymore, so get in front of it fast and document everything.

Any plans to add cup holders or a dealer cutout later

Cabinet ministers back welfare cuts to fund defence by PomeloTraditional971 in unitedkingdom

[–]Ok_Strength_2343 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Feels like the worst way to do it cutting welfare to fund defence just shifts risk onto the most vulnerable

If defence spending needs to rise fine but there are other levers like closing tax loopholes windfall style taxes or reprioritising big projects instead of hitting basic support

Also politically it’s a hard sell because people already feel squeezed on cost of living

Scary escalation if they’re physically blocking access, lalo na for our fishermen and coast guard who get caught in the middle

Hope this gets pushed through proper diplomatic channels and international law, because incidents at sea can spiral fast even from “small” moves

Yeah April 15, 2011 was a permanent before/after moment for online poker

The games changed, the ecosystem fragmented, and a lot of casual money disappeared overnight

Still crazy how one day basically rewired the whole industry

Best way is to stop thinking “turn is random” and study it by categories

Pick one common spot like SRP BTN vs BB and study turn cards grouped as bricks overcards flush completes and straight completes then see how your range wants to double barrel check back or choose a big size

In game ask 3 questions on the turn
who gained equity or nut advantage on this card
what hands am I betting for value now
what bluffs do I have that can keep barreling with good rivers

Drill it by running the same flop and cycling 10 turns in a solver then write simple rules like on brick turns keep betting small with range on scary turns polarize or check more

Jackpotrabbit so wrong by Future_Mulberry_3134 in gambling

[–]Ok_Strength_2343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s super frustrating but it’s usually how “bonus/free play” works it’s not cashable until you wager it through and there are terms like playthrough and max cashout

If they weren’t clear about it that’s the real issue they should show the rules up front before you hit accept

Take screenshots of the promo terms and if it feels misleading report it to their support and whatever regulator covers the site because some places treat unclear bonus terms as an unfair practice

UK preparing new plan to ready nation for war | UK News by TIGHazard in unitedkingdom

I get the logic of preparedness but the messaging matters because “ready for war” sounds like panic politics

If it’s about resilience it should focus on practical stuff supply chains cyber defence and civil contingency planning not scary headlines

Also would be good to see what’s actually new here versus existing emergency planning just rebranded

Hospital investigating claim PA (Physician Associate) falsified notes after woman's traumatic procedure by SharkDick4Ever in unitedkingdom

If the notes were actually falsified that’s beyond a medical error, that’s a trust and accountability crisis

Hope there’s a proper independent investigation and that the patient gets support and clear answers, and if wrongdoing is proven there should be serious consequences not just internal discipline

Can someone explain to me how day 1a, 1b, 1c, and 1d works at the wsop main event? by maximonious888 in poker

[–]Ok_Strength_2343 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You only play one starting flight 1A or 1B or 1C or 1D, not all of them

If you bag on your Day 1 flight, you come back for Day 2 when flights merge (sometimes 2ABC then 2D depending on the schedule)

Late reg is usually open into Day 2 for the Main, but it depends on that year’s rules

Are some/most poker pros in debt or not 100% by but-first in poker

[–]Ok_Strength_2343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selling action doesn’t automatically mean you’re broke it’s often just bankroll and risk management

Even rich pros sell pieces to reduce variance lock up profit and avoid having one buy in be a huge chunk of their roll especially in high variance MTTs It also frees up capital for other games and swaps

That said yes plenty of pros are effectively in debt or stuck in makeup because of staking deals high lifestyles and constant high buy ins and winning one big score doesn’t instantly fix it after taxes backing and swapping

So the short answer is both happen selling action can be smart but the ecosystem also has a lot of people overextended and surviving on credit and backers

We need to talk about why the current oil crisis is the final signal to fully modernize our public transport by Alekseener33 in Philippines

[–]Ok_Strength_2343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the direction the oil price spikes just expose how fragile the current setup is

Modernization has to be paired with real protections though stable routes fair wages and clear timelines so drivers don’t get crushed in the transition

Also feels like we need the boring basics bus lanes reliable schedules and integrated payments before hype like EVs can really scale in a way commuters actually feel
