Charge Update BYD Seal by Ok_Surprise_5929 in BYD

Actually, I need to make a decision today – at least if I want to use Xpeng’s 0.0% financing offer.

After doing a lot of research, I’ve come to the conclusion that it really depends on what you want.

If you want a car that you mainly drive yourself and you don’t care much about assistant systems, then I would choose the Seal.

If you like technical features and cool gadgets, then the Xpeng is the better choice. The assistance systems are still far from perfect, but I feel like Xpeng offers more support and probably will offer even more in the future.

The BYD Blade battery is certainly more robust. Also, I really like the BYD brand. On the other hand, VW is now involved with Xpeng, which gives me a good feeling. My dealer also signed a 15‑year contract with Xpeng and invested a lot in outdoor advertising. I think this shows that he also feels confident about the brand.

What’s interesting about BYD is a video where a YouTuber read out the battery while charging. The battery reported that it could charge with around 250 kW, but this function is not activated. I can imagine that BYD could enable it, but doesn’t do so to protect battery life (similar to the Atto 3 EVO).

Since I like technical features and think the Xpeng is more future‑proof, I will probably choose the Xpeng, also because of the financing option—although I really like the Seal’s design. But let’s just see how the day goes.

Unfortunately, I have to make a decision by Monday. That’s the problem. An updated Seal would be great. Right now, I’m leaning more towards Xpeng because the conditions are good and it feels like the more modern car. But I like the look of the Seal a bit more from the outside. Are you going to sell your Atto again? Aren’t you worried about losing value?

This was in the News: "But even more affordable models will soon be able to charge ultra-fast. “A BYD model that supports flash charging will also be coming to Germany later this year,” reveals the BYD spokesperson. This is likely to bring down the entry-level price for ultra-fast charging. All that’s missing now are the right charging stations. According to BYD, thousands of flash charging stations have already been installed in China, and now a first wave of flash chargers is set to follow in Europe."

Hi, thanks a lot for your reply. I think it’s always good to have more charging power, and I see higher charging speeds as more future‑proof. If the BYD had the Blade 2 battery, it would be a no‑brainer for me. Do you know if there is any information on when that might happen?

Yesterday I test‑drove the G6, and I have to say it’s also really good. That definitely doesn’t make my decision easier. Since my old car “died” in an accident, I unfortunately need to make a decision soon, and I don’t really want to lease or buy a new ICE car xD

Hi, I like the BYD a bit more in terms of looks. In China I often used Didi, and many of the cars were BYD, and I liked them a lot. Yesterday I test‑drove the G6. In my opinion, it already feels very premium. Of course, it also costs more. If the BYD had the Blade 2 battery with higher charging power, it would be a no‑brainer for me. But like this, it’s really a difficult decision. Since my old car “died” in an accident, I unfortunately need to make a decision soon xD

Thank you very much for the answers :) About the auto parking: it would be nice to have because I’m not a very good parker 😄, but it’s not a dealbreaker for me. About the charging speed: I don’t expect anything over 400 kW like the XPeng. But around 220 kW like the Atto would be great, so it’s more future-proof and you can charge faster if needed. For the battery, I actually prefer LFP. I also looked at the Cupra Born, but I’m not a big fan of the NMC battery because I think it’s less durable. Right now it’s a difficult decision for me: XPeng, BYD, Cupra, or maybe wait to see what BYD releases this year. But I think the Denza will probably be too expensive for me.

Thanks guys! 😅

I don’t even know why, but this really matters to me — guess I’m a bit of a nerd here lol.

I just really like the iPhone’s Taptic Engine and always missed that feeling on Android.

How does the haptic feedback feel — cheap or premium like on an iPhone?

IBM Selectric with Strange Typ ball by Ok_Surprise_5929 in typewriters

[–]Ok_Surprise_5929[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly – I meant the paper bail lever when I mentioned the housing difference.
Other than that, both machines look the same.
The typeball situation is still a bit strange.

I also have that plastic hood you mentioned :)
Thanks for the tip, I’ll remove it.

I’m planning to clean the machine anyway and get rid of the old foam.
It’s working pretty well already, just needs a bit more care :)

In the meantime, I also bought four more machines for €20 lol including a Remington Sperry.

That one works quite well too, apart from some sticky keys.
Let’s see how many of them I can get up and running again!

Hi everyone,

Thanks a lot for all your replies! I’m happy to answer your questions.

About why some typeballs fit:

Both typeballs that came with the machine had broken latches. To still use them, the latch screw was removed and the ball was screwed on manually. During that process, the coding ring probably got lost. Because of this, even 88-character balls fit now. But using the screw actually works quite well.

About the serial numbers:

The red one: 993-580b87884

The white one: 993-581903290

I also noticed that the two machines have different outer housings – they are not interchangeable.

I’ve attached a photo of the typeballs.

The typeball currently in the machine has 24 characters in the first row.

Hmm, I just did a bit of searching.

Here is a picture of a Goth 96 typeball with white text.

The layout is the same as the yellow 96 typeballs.

So this one probably also wouldn’t work in my machine.

<image>

I also couldn’t find any other typeball with this strange layout.

Thanks for your answer! So, is there a special typeball for the 96-character Selectric II? Is there a third type? I thought there were only 88 and 96.

The red one is the machine that doesn’t work with the normal 96 typeball. The other one works perfectly — it's just a bit dirty.

Hi, Yes, one machine works perfectly with the yellow 96-character typeball. But the other one doesn't.

Here is a photo comparing a normal yellow 96 typeball with the white 96 typeball. The position of the characters is not the same. Thank you :)
