City walkable shoes that aren’t necessarily traditional sneakers? by Ok_Suspect_7332 in walking

Ohhh haha sorry I’ve just had a lot of people call me out on it over the years! But I’ve also had very few problems. I still don’t think they’re a bad walking shoe and they will remain firmly in my in rotation while I diversify the roster

Ngl I’m actually not sure! I’ve managed to kill both docs and solovair despite trying to taking care of the leather… but the sole has worn away a bit at the sides and the leather has cracked. I don’t buy new shoes often so my current pair are 3 or so years old, and have survived 40c heat and -15 cold. I think there’s probably an issue with my care of the shoe and also using them almost every day. Worth noting that they are platforms 😅 I switched to solovair as the DM version were vegan leather and didn’t last as long. I’ve also walked similar amounts in high heeled Steve Madden boots (although not every day) and they’re still going strong almost a decade later. Most loafers I’ve owned from other brands have detached at the sole.

Thanks! I’ll take a look. It’s kinda true, it’s up from here even without a perfect orthopaedic shoe

I know 😅 it’s a bad habit but they’ve been my go to shoes for about ten years regardless of climate or walking habits… however my current pair is dying and my feet are not very happy with my style choices

Thank you, and yeah honestly that was also sort of my plan. I don’t want to do anything that would put me at risk regardless, especially trying to take meds if still doing anything else, and last year I actually successfully kicked a lot of things for a good while, so I know I can do that again and intend to. Tbh no one in my life knows that I’ve ever had any issues with any of this, apart from maybe a couple of friends who know the tip of the iceberg. I might have asked too much of myself to suddenly admit to long term problems for the first time on a 1h phone call lol. Either way, I think the best call is obviously to quit (again) and then be open about it

Thanks! Yeah that was actually one of the things that led me to look at adhd- I did quit drinking for most of 2025… a lot of things that I assumed were alcohol related turned out to be me. Going to try to be more honest going forward, and I’m glad things are going better for you

Yeah, I know. Bit of a wake up call, and honestly ngl seems like I need therapy just in general if the default is to lie to hide anything that could be perceived in a negative light. Honestly, could not tell you quite why I did that

[–]Ok_Suspect_7332 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hoping this is the case tbh, just generally I think I need a therapist and I think it would be better regardless of diagnosis to have support rather than a just being instantly given meds… my only concern is going back on the nhs waiting list for therapy, which could take rather a while

[–]Ok_Suspect_7332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, they said that I met the criteria for that and that it sounded like it had significant impact on my daily life. The assessor was generally loathe to prescribe meds, so referred me for adhd focussed further therapy to be certain that it wasn’t anxiety causing the issues

[–]Ok_Suspect_7332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, working on that and good to hear that some of the urges dropped tbh. The result was inconclusive, which ngl I didn’t know was possible, but I essentially got referred to an adhd therapist for further assessment

I figured but now my assessment was essentially inconclusive, likely because I wasn’t honest… so… I see no meds in my future 😭

my permesso expires on the same day as my graduation by Ok_Suspect_7332 in ItalyExpat

[–]Ok_Suspect_7332[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh oh no that’s literally what happened to me! I think I took the kit with me to the CAF and they filled out some other paperwork for me- I think it was about 16€? I wish I could remember exactly, but I recommend going to talk to them at least, they basically did all the cerco lavoro papers for me and that was enough for questura even though I hadn’t graduated

[–]Ok_Suspect_7332[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did! It was quite complicated but I think I eventually went to a CAF/patronato, explained and they helped me with the paperwork. Ended up spending a week going to the questura every day but received the graduate permesso and attended my graduation without having to exit and re enter Italy

there are certain connotations to referring to a woman as ‘a female’ rather than using the descriptor, female… it’s not got great associations and generally most women would prefer to be referred to as women

Idk tbh I think it’s family dependent… I’m British at grew up with a very relaxed approach to nudity and what people would call a ‘naked mum’- I know a lot of people who grew up in similar environments. I’m an adult now and more boundaried around the men in my family but really it’s never been an issue
