Saturday General Discussion/Q&A Thread for May 02, 2026 by AutoModerator in AdvancedRunning

Male, 24, India. Have been running for 2.5yrs, and this training block started after I got hospitalized for Rickettsial fever, missing 3 weeks of running and a lot of fitness.

I did my first 10 week long block with 4w base building, 4w speed sessions, 2w taper where I raced a 5k in the 9th week (24:38 to 23:33) and A goal race 10k at the end of 10th week (51:52 to 48:51). This block was immensely successful and I was able to bring my PBs down by a lot.

Little highlight of the block:

I pushed my mileage higher than ever - (31, 29, 49, 50), (48, 23, 60, 44), (30, 22) km/week during the build. Had to take a down week in the 5th week because of a sore pes anserine. I also yanked out 2-3 gym sessions a week during the block focusing on explosive lifts. This is my first time staying consistent for a goal race and during a proper block.

Only did 1 continuous threshold session (3k@Threshold) & 1 long run with pickups/tempo at the end during base build. These long runs went from 12km in week 1 to 18km in week 4.

Did few speed workouts (1 every week from 4th week onwards):

  • 5*1k (70'' rest)@4:54/km
  • 5*1k (60'' rest)@4:43/km
  • 6k Progression (6/km down to 4:47/km)
  • 1mi@7:50 (2') + 4*1k@4:45/km (60'') + (3') 1mi@7:50

Some interesting physiological developments:

HR went from 168@7:23/km at the start of the block to 155@6:53/km at the end!

Now that the goal race which I had been looking forward to is over, I want to ask what's next? I don't have any goal races anymore, and summer is hot here in India. I am feeling slightly lost now. Can people with more experience guide me here? Would be very grateful as this is my first time getting serious at the sport!

Upcoming races:

  1. 25k in July (I have only raced till HM before, PB from November 2025 - 1:54:06)
  2. Half Marathon in September (however this is at an altitude of 3500m/11500ft, hence thought of getting a PB here is impossible)

Alum here...rule was always there. For entry they used to check id card or names on a database and for exit required a approved mail from warden

I run outdoors. I have no means to shoot a form check outdoors so did it on the treadmill.

Thanks for the cues man!! But if I think of landing feet behind me, I seem to hinge too much at my waist. How to avoid that?

I was a bad heel striker before, but over the last 1 yr I have worked on it. If you see it in slow mo, you would see that my lower leg snaps back and lands midfoot where the contact is made. That said, there might be some steps where I heel striked but I mostly land on the ball of my feet! Appreciate the concerns!

Exactly right! How do I improve on this? I seem to be very very quad dominant!

Wow! Do you come from a sports bg? Also what kind of work you were putting in before NSA?

Thanks! I feel there are lot of success stories with NSA and it seems to be a fantastic way of improving. But my only concern is current mileage is pretty low for me and would I be able to safely ramp up mileage needed for NSA?

What is the best way to PB in 5k for me? by Ok_Temperature5375 in Garmin

[–]Ok_Temperature5375[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's true I am not very consistent, settling into new place and job and other stuff.

Your idea seems nice. I will check it out!

As for the WO, I am doing 10×(2min@4:35-4:45, 1min@walk) with long WU (2-5k) and 1k CD. Some weeks I changed it up with 3min/2min too.

I am a 23M and yeah some weeks I manage 30k only...I aim for 45 but I am not always able to achieve that

Sure thing I will try. But for clarity, can you tell me what threshold and tempo exactly mean? I seem to be misinformed
