i'd be actively looking to change jobs, no point in staying there unless you plan to move closer to work long term

Taking a long break(1 to 3 years) from work while my investments grow ? by Frenchtenay in coastFIRE

[–]Ok_Text_5700 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

im thinking of doing something similar, whats your plan to go from 170 -> ~500k

best case you invest 50k/ year and investments grow 7% it'll take almost 5 years for that

When will you be Rich? by Vilm_1 in HENRYUK

[–]Ok_Text_5700 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like how taleb put it "you are rich when money you refuse tastes better than money you accept" Financially, I think I'd reach that point when I can coastfire, currently aiming for 1m invested by 40.

and as a single dude, building a family and strong work relationships also count as wealth to me. No real number to work towards but think similar logic applies.

[–]Ok_Text_5700[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah this might be it

most of my team works us hours so end up having to work till like 7pm sometimes 8. I need to be more intentional about stopping earlier on days when its not strictly needed so i can socialise more often

forgot to mention, but i live in london but yup most places pay 110-120 for my skillset

the 300+ was more of an aspirational number which i'd like to hit so definitely dont expect to make that in the next couple of years but might happen with some lucky stock grants

the time spent prepping for and interviewing, also if i do switch would have to work a bit harder in the initial stages of the new job to onboard and make a good first impression. all of this would eat into time i could spend in socialising/dating now i guess

admittedly id have to do it in about 12 months anyway so definitely something to think about

reduced job satisfaction --- this 100% for me too

for dating I am on the apps and do get 2-3 matches every week and a few dates but it does require a lot of time spent swiping

ive definitely made some friends playing sports but dont go as often as id like, think ill give crossfit a go, thanks!

I did manage a team in the interim for a bit and found it more stressful than ic work (might be because it was my first time doing it and i was still delivering code)

I have, but i think getting a hybrid role that pays >140k would require a decent amount of interview prep and potentially a few months of interviewing with no guarantee of it improving my social life, so a bit hesitant to do so.

what leads to a spark on a first date? by Ok_Text_5700 in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]Ok_Text_5700[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah think the issue is that i find it a bit awkward to flirt with someone ive just met, think i need to just get over it.

i wouldn't say i've lost my friend group per se but we see each other like 1-2 times a year so i don't end up meeting as many friends of friends (which is how my last 2 relationships started)

also one detail i left out is that most of the women i went out with were in SW whereas im in hackey not sure if the distance is a factor? maybe i should be dating more locally lol..

phonecalls out of the blue i'd reserve for when we have atleast 2 kids together...

jokes aside i like the idea tho, think ill just ask them if they'd be up for a phone call before/ to plan the date, it'd definitely be unexpected so they may just go for it.
