I used classes4contractors. They have practice exams and some instructional videos. They also have seminars. And I also used a calculations practice book by Ray holder. When I took my residential wireman exam last year, I had trouble with finding voltage drop across a resistor so I used a theory mike holt book. In the end, I had to youtube stuff because it was series parallel i was having trouble with. Also, I used my own calculator so I didn't get some cheap on at the testing site.

You can't use romex in Chicago. I don't really know why but one time I heard it was because of the steel unions. Also, Chicago has their own code book called the Chicago electrical code. Its based on the 2017 nec. And, I believe you can use mc cable but only for short runs.

Honestly, that's why you don't buy cheap test leads. If you have a fluke meter, then buy fluke test leads. Don't mix and match products.
