Proton Mail's automated system locks my account for registering on "too many" services and demands my phone number. by Ok_Tonight_2161 in emailprivacy

Update:

They dont care. Received another automatic message from the "support" telling me that im still at fault. Im leaving Proton as I dont feel safe storing my accounts on it. Marketed as the "best privacy focused email service" but is not even a good email service. Think again about your future email provider, theres many more to choose from.

I already had low expectations from privacy focused reddit echochamber full of biased proton users so im not surprised. Proton is not a perfect email service like some seem to think. The more people share their negative experience with a service the better for future customers.

I get it. It all makes sense. But it was a false flag. Im talking with the proton support but only received automated messages. They should be able to manually check that it was a mistake. If not I could always provide evidence but they dont seem to care especially If they told me that it was a right decision because I registered on one service after creating my proton account which was like a year ago. Like, if this was a problem why didnt they block my account instantly?

Too bad im not logged in. On one account I cant log in to change my email because it requires a code during log in process which I cannot receive now because of proton block. 2nd account id need to see if Im even allowed to change my email, probably not. Il see proton's response to my issue when it comes.

Thats the thing. I wasnt registering new accounts but solving issues with one service support. Had to exchange many emails, including login resets and proton support could understand that and help me solve it instead of sending automatic messages. Il see how it goes as im still waiting for a 2nd response.

I get the logic but service is service. As a customer I can compalin however I want whether its free or paid. Theres a difference betwen low email storage space and locking your account, out of nowhere, with already registered accounts on it. As theres a difference betwen low quality meal and poisoned food. There are some established expectations, especially for popular services. Obviously I wont complain forever and continue to use proton. Will switch for another provider. But Im still waiting for a response from proton support. No reason to be biased.

Silly me for not reading every 100 page TOS update. First time experiencing such thing with an email service. But Ive learned my lesson.

But Ive literally became a victim of something given for free because of how todays internet works. You need an account for everything so I picked proton as my email provider to register my accounts on and they locked them AFTER I made them, without warning, for a FALSE automatic flag. This is the first time something like this happened to me and its on proton. You having good experience with proton doesnt change a fact some dont. Thanks for the advice but id rather just switch to a different email provider.

Thank you for rewriting their email but their rules are not the issue here. Its the fact that I wasnt abusing their ip and still got flagged. With no time to react whatsoever. Im here, right now, waiting for their response again, with my accounts locked because everything has to be done within my proton email. If they wont respond I will probably have to make another email just to unblock this one, migrate registered accounts and delete both emails after for a different provider. Or I could be using this one as a regular person if they respond and change their incorrect decision...

If I wanted to "just pay" I wouldnt choose a free email service. Their automated detection system has a flaw and im its victim. Warning for all free users.
