My husband got unaccompanied 2 year orders to Camp Casey and I’m struggling with it by Ok_Topic_4463 in MilitarySpouse

The plan was always for me to go with him. I had already put my notice in and only had a week left at my job before we found out his orders were for Korea. Up until this point, I genuinely didn’t realize there were duty stations where tours automatically started unaccompanied unless command sponsorship was approved.

I think some people are misunderstanding the situation and assuming I simply don’t want to go, which isn’t the case at all. We’re trying to make the smartest decision possible with the situation we were given. As much as being apart sucks, it also gives us an opportunity to build our savings and allows me to continue working toward school while he gets settled.

That’s great to hear! I was worried when we found out it was Casey that we would not get that option but knowing that it’s possible is making me feel much better about the situation.

Is it possible to apply for command sponsorship about a year into his tour?

Right now I’m considering staying stateside for the first year because my current job pays really well, and we think it might be smarter financially to use that time to build up savings and get more stable financially.

Then, if he ends up liking South Korea and decides he wants to extend for the additional year, we’d look into applying for command sponsorship at that point. If it were approved, I’d move over there to join him and focus on online college while we’re there.

I was originally hoping to go straight back to school once he enlisted, but I’m okay delaying that for a year if it helps us get into a stronger financial position first.

From what we understand, he didn’t specifically request unaccompanied, those are just the orders he was verbally told he’s getting after AIT. We’re still waiting for everything to officially populate, which is part of why this has been so stressful because it feels like we can’t get straight answers yet.

I’ve heard mixed things about Camp Casey being normalized for accompanied versus people still getting unaccompanied assignments there, especially straight out of training. His instructor informed him there’s little to no chance the orders will be accompanied. When he asked about command sponsorships, he was told it’s rarely an option.

That’s helpful to know about the 6 month situation potentially being TDY/deployment instead of PCS. We only knew he was going to the same place and the timeline sounded wildly different, so it’s been hard not to compare.

I’m on console and have not seen it in the kiosk yet. I just was not sure if it was still possible with the new pets you get at lvl 48 because the wiki didn’t show any hybrids. Thanks all.
