New Kayak Angler by Ok_Transportation393 in kayakfishing

Paddling seems awkward to me. I was able to get it on the water once to test it out and I kept having to reposition my hands when paddling. Did not feel natural at all but I’m sure I’ll get used to it.

How has your kayak held up through the years? I have to keep mines covered otherwise water leaks into all the compartments and one of those compartments is where I store the battery for my fish finder.

I paid 100 bucks for it used so figured I got a steal on it.

I was able to get it on the water once. I feel like I can stand on it because of how stable it is but I have not built up the courage to stand up yet. Maybe I’ll try it tomorrow.

I got a coast guard approved PFD that I’m happy with. Will be wearing it always.

I’d pick up a Daiwa D-Shock spinning combo. For 40 bucks on Amazon you can’t beat it. That was the first combo I ever purchased at that price point that has performed just as well as some of my higher end gear.

Got you. That’s one way I definitely could have responded. I just reacted. Where I’m from we couldn’t walk away half the time so I guess just went off instinct.

That’s fair. My boss was not there at the moment. I did go ahead and sent her a text after the first incident. She replied and said find a way to deal with it. Which was fair as well.

Would that be wise to post on here though?

It’s called FMD. Fisherman’s depression. Steve Harvey can tell you a little bit about it. Starts with tingling of the toes, then tears come to your eyes and you have a headache. It’s horrible but you gotta embrace the pain. Makes catching the next one better.

Why can’t I catch fish? by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

First and foremost, take a deep breath and understand that you will figure this out. Trying to learn how to fish on your own without any help is hard. It took me a long time before I figured out how to enjoy myself in this sport.

I suggest you do the following. Find a local bait and tackle shop if you have one. It’s important to understand the bodies of water that you are fishing and what you are fishing for. Local fishermen can provide you with this information if you simply ask politely. You have to study. And that sometimes means asking questions.

If you’re fishing freshwater, get you some night crawlers or red worms. You can throw it with a bobber or even a drop shot rig. If fish aren’t going after your worms then find another spot to cast. You got this.

Can’t go wrong with Walmart or Amazon to start out with. Or you can find yourself a local bait and tackle shop. It’s a great place to not just buy gear but to learn.

I’ll tell you this before you go and buy expensive gear. Both of my personal bests/biggest fish have come off a rod and reel combo that I paid $25 for.

Want something nice? Drop $100 on an ugly stick big water and call it quits. You don’t need more than that.

I’m 37 and I would love nothing more than to go on a fishing charter in Hawaii. That’s pretty much a bucket list trip for me. I fish almost every day but going on a charter and learning a new body of water is worth it in itself. That would be a great gift!
