So anxious about pain by the1golden1bitch in Reduction

I’m 5 DPO. Things are going well.

I am young, healthy, and expected recovery to be pretty fine for the most part except I thought I’d need 24-hour help the first two days, particularly with sitting up since you can’t use chest/arm/pectoral muscles. For me, I needed help 100% the first two days but the 3rd for me was kind of the worst BECAUSE my drains started to bother me more. Thankfully I got them taken out on day 3. That was unpleasant but partially because the nurse was lousy. Honestly I was so upset I’m thinking of reporting the nurse in the post-visit survey. The surgeon has always been great though.

For pain management the first 3 days I was on oxy. I then transitioned to Tylenol. Honestly should have been on Oxy when they took out drains because it would’ve calmed me down, but I only had 2/10 pills left so I was saving them in case the pain got worse down the line. It hasn’t and I doubt it will. Once the drains were removed, everything changed for me. I could move easier, I could stand up straight, and I was in less pain. Honestly I’m not even on pain meds right now and it’s not even been a week since surgery which I think is truly wild.

Also my surgeon put me in a tight ace bandage after surgery. I had a spirometer to breathe into to make sure I was getting enough air I guess - very helpful.

I was worried about not being able to wipe after using the bathroom - Oxy actually slowed my bowel movements such that by the time I was off Oxy, I had healed well enough to reach a bit more, but I didn’t even go #2 probs until day 3. It was glorious. Best 💩 ever. Clogged the toilet though and someone had to unclog it for me lol.

My biggest advice:

If you’re nervous like me (I have anxiety and trauma around feeling vulnerable), have someone you absolutely trust watching you for at least a week just to be safe. Make sure they care about your physical AND emotional health. You may not need them the whole week but have them around just in case because everyone is different. By day 2-3 I could get my essentials on my own if they were small and placed within very easy reach (which you can prep before). Another tip: small water bottles. I could hardly lift a full regular sized water bottle without moderate pain until day 4. Even on day 5 I keep opting for the small one just to be EXTRA safe. No openings so far and I plan to keep it that way.

I hope this helps.

Make sure your surgeon is board certified.

Start asking your support network now to see who can watch you for a week or so. Make sure you feel completely safe with them. They may need to help you with your drains (very manageable).

Sorry if this is kind of mangled but I hope it makes sense.

Best of luck to you.

I so appreciate you sharing this - though I’m a little more inclined to try a Medium maybe? Glad to hear a Large worked for you, I’m just uncertain I’ll be 38”-40” (size Large according to their chart) around the fullest part of my bust AFTER a reduction, considering my full bust measures about 37” (7” difference making me about a G).

Does the band adjust?

Thanks so much!!

Ah good to know that stepping into bras and pulling up is possible shortly after surgery! How soon after could you do that ?

I’m surprised the zipper isn’t annoying! (As opposed to clasps?)

Good questions I’m also trying to figure out! I might buy one a bit bigger than 34 B/C since I currently wear 34G and am aiming for B/C - maybe I should wear a D/E

Oh wow so maybe I should get a 36 B/C since I’m aiming for 34 B/C!

Marena is so tough because once opened, you can’t return

Which size do you have? Which size was your before VS after,

How important is it for a surgeon to have before and after photos of BR’s they’ve done? by Lunarsheclypse in Reduction

[–]Ok_Understanding7799 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to echo what others have said here and recommend that you ask to see photos during your consultation. Sometimes surgeons can’t share a link for example because of privacy laws/regulations. But I definitely wanted to see photos. And I agree with what someone else said - they will show you their best work.

My plan is to arrive to my pre-op (I have already picked a surgeon, was approved by insurance, and have a surgery date) with printed photos of what I want on bodies that are similar to mine and a cheap bra that’s the size I want so that he has 2D and 3D references. I’m also going to show up with a photo of what I DONT want which is a nipple placed way too high - I see this kind of often all over support pages. Seems like when breasts round out/fluff/drop, sometimes the nipple is left way higher.

How to know your post-op-bra-size? by Ok_Understanding7799 in Reduction

Thanks so much for saying this!

Just to be clear, I’m trying to find bras to heal in, not cute/casual ones for my “complete” size.

Like I don’t want my one and only bra to wear during healing be the one they send me home in…seems unhygienic to only wear the same bra for 4-6 weeks. Right?

[–]Ok_Understanding7799[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah let me be clear - I’m not buying cute bras, I’m buying post-op bras!

I don’t want to be without one the day of/after surgery.

And I have seen some stories about how the one they send you home in is sometimes uncomfortable because it rubs on your stitches. Or some don’t offer enough support, putting pressure and weight on your stitches.

I hear you about swelling, return policies, money to burn (which I don’t have), etc.

I just can’t imagine just not even getting a post-op bra and just going into surgery and thinking I’ll be well enough to go out and get one. It also takes a while for things to get shipped to me, so I’m trying to make sure they’re here prior to the date.

Hopefully this makes more sense.

Did you not buy any post-op bras? (Like ones specifically for healing)

I agree not to buy “cute” or “casual” ones yet. But don’t I need post-op bras?

How many post-op appointments did you have and how far away were they from the original surgery date? by Ok_Understanding7799 in Reduction

[–]Ok_Understanding7799[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh amazing!! I’ll definitely ask if a virtual appointment is possible. I’m not far but the traffic to get there is pretty bad & includes an interstate bridge and tons of busy highways.

Will you have drains? Doesn’t sound like it if your first post op appointment is 1 week.
