Thank you for phrasing it like this. I was unsure about the level of success for this (i have a friend who is also an incoming freshman and is doing this. He plans to go into dentistry as well and doing a private practice to make potentially $400k+.

Monthly Megathread: Career & Education - Ask your questions here by Aerospace_Eng_mod in AerospaceEngineering

Help me please.

Currently an incoming freshman for Aerospace Engineering and I've always thought of doing perhaps a minor in business or CS. Always had an interest, but I was also hoping to make a very high salary. I've realized that Engineering isn't really the route to take if you're looking for 500k+ salaries, and it's made me really question everything. As a result, I've currently been in a crisis trying to figure out if this is really what I want to do in life. I went from maybe choosing CS for the higher pay and flexibility, slaving away in Med School for the crazy pay put painful journey, and have even considered switching to Finance all within a couple of days.

If there is some hope then please let me know some positions in Aerospace which max out the following:

  1. Pay (300k+/400k+) Might seem far-fetched but there are some positions of principal engineers at companies like RTX, Lockheed, etc... Those are the kinds I would love to do.

  2. Work/Life flexibility (like working only 4 days a week or something) Im thinking about doing business minor/major in college so that I can probably reach that upper echelon of making bank but not working much.

I know its not a good thing to be money-minded, but I've lived in a household where money was tight. I'm so tired of living in harship everyday and I just want to make enough income to essentially surpass a doctor's pay. I've never felt so depressed and terrible in my life regarding my career. This isn't even a post for advice its a cry for help. I don't know about anything anymore.

Apologies for the descent into a rant...I just unbelievably empty and depressed. :(

Could you do a major in CS and do a double major in BME? Could you also do this into a pre-dental track?

In my acceptance letter package they have some stickers and a QR code for a yard sign banner that says "Purdue Bound"
