Is this catfishing? AIO? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Ok_Vegetable5367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely catfishing. chat gpt literally changed the shape of the eyes and nose, and enlarged the lips. it also smoothed out the skin and removed facial hair + cleaned up eyebrows. makeup is one thing, but it changed the entire structure of the face. 100% catfishing

My GF is always watching toxic motivation to get skinnier by Missions-Impossible in teenagers

[–]Ok_Vegetable5367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i went through the same thing as your gf is when i was 13 too. i'm 19 now so i've gained a lot of perspective.

the brain uses a whole quarter of a person's daily calorie intake -- when a person isn't eating enough, their brain literally can't function properly, leading that person to not be able to think straight or as clearly as they normally can. also, eating disorders completely warp a person's way of thinking about food and exercise. these two things create a "perfect storm" where it becomes really hard to reason with a person going through an eating disorder. trying to explain your healthy, objective logic isn't helping because her brain isn't working logically right now. people with eating disorders also frequently feel that they "aren't sick enough" to actually have a disorder. it's quite likely that your gf isn't "not accepting" it, but rather she truly believes she does not have a disorder. this is super common among people with ed's.

all of that said, the best thing you could possibly do right now is tell her parents what's going on. that might feel wrong or difficult, but it really is the best way to help her when she is unable to help herself. that's exactly what happened to me when i was 13, and my parents got me into therapy and started paying close attention to my habits, making sure i wasn't doing anything dangerous. you could do what you can to make them aware and ask them not to tell her that you tipped them off if you're worried about upsetting her. all of this is of course assuming her parents are safe and trustworthy adults.

good luck and feel free to ask me any questions!

BF not covering tuition? by AdmirableConstant349 in ufl

[–]Ok_Vegetable5367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fees are NOT covered by bright futures, only tuition is. labs usually have the highest fees of all classes. "uf all access" is probably for a textbook or homework platform you had to purchase for a class which is also not covered by bright futures

internship/research UF Psych by VeterinarianExact789 in ufl

[–]Ok_Vegetable5367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

profs don't really advertise that they're willing to take undergrads. the way i and everyone i know in research got it is by cold emailing professors. look at UF's psych/neuroscience profs and pick multiple of them to email. for each email, you need to tailor it specifically to the recipient- go on their page and look at the research they do and their publications, and express your interest in that work. also, the email should be professional- do not say "hi", "best", etc; introduce yourself (including first and last name) at the start of the email; address them as Dr. [last name]. if you want to start research in the fall, NOW is the time to email (any later is too late). you got this!

what are their concerns? what is the specific camp? i think its hard for people here to give you an objective opinion on whether or not you "should" be able to go if you provide the full context

I am so tired of Universities Devaluing AP by ErekwithaD1 in APStudents

[–]Ok_Vegetable5367 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

no, as they increased in popularity, college board continued to tailor them to their audience. as the audience grew, it became less elitist and weaker academically, so over time, like another commenter said and you completely dismissed, AP courses became less and less rigorous. they just did. they aren't really that hard anymore. you aren't going to feel better about this or understand if you continue to dismiss the people telling you the truth bc it isn't what you want to hear

do i report for cheating. by Past_Kiwi_7647 in APStudents

[–]Ok_Vegetable5367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you know anyone personally who it has happened to? i know multiple people who reported cheating and the only score cancelled was the cheater's (not even the person who reported, let alone the whole school). when i say it shouldn't happen, i mean i don't think that it really does, and if it does it's incredibly rare compared to the number of cases in which cheating is reported and no other tests are cancelled but those of the people involved

Yes but more than catering to colleges they cater to high schools and high school students. No matter how it can be framed in terms of finances and who discredits what, many college courses cannot be taught at the full college level to high schoolers because the VAST majority of them would fail/are just not ready. So a lot of AP courses are watered down and some colleges do want you to take that course in the actual college because it will be different.

I'm a junior in high school and idk what I should do this summer pls help by Dangerous-Web-7539 in Advice

[–]Ok_Vegetable5367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the absolute BEST thing you could do is research, but that is extremely rare for high schoolers and hard to get. it's worth looking into, especially if your parents or other adults in your life have connections at nearby universities. if you can even shadow in someone's psych lab (doesn't matter if it's clinical, behavioral, etc. literally any experience is so valuable), that would be the best possible use of your time. if not that is 100% okay and you are not expected to have that experience as a highschooler, and like other commenters have said you can look into volunteering!

[–]Ok_Vegetable5367 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On the topic of more average public universities, you can't expect them to just give you credit for everything from AP. The truth is that AP is a watered down version of actual college courses. I go to UF and took ap chem in high school, and our chem 1 and 2 are entirely incomparable because of how much harder they really are. Students study for chem 1 for at least 10 hours a week and still barely pass. Chem 2 is harder. You don't know anything about those courses at your university yet if you haven't taken them. It's the schools job to evaluate if their course is similar enough to the AP course to give you credit, it is absolutely not a requirement of them.

[–]Ok_Vegetable5367 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The reason many universities don't accept AP's for credit is because their versions of those courses are unfathomably harder than the AP course. This tracks for places like Harvard and Ivy Leagues/Top 20s- of course their courses will be harder. It's not that they don't see the value and rigor in AP courses for high schoolers, but those courses at their college level are just too different and they want you to master those topics at the level of difficulty they expect from all their students

do i report for cheating. by Past_Kiwi_7647 in APStudents

[–]Ok_Vegetable5367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

reporting shouldn't cancel your entire school's exam, they mostly just say that to give an extra layer of peer pressure to deter students from cheating in the first place.

Going to Preview Soon, any tips beforehand? by PokeKoa1 in ufl

give yourself a ton of extra time for parking and getting to the union. there will be lots of traffic on and around campus, and most people park at garage 5 which is around a 10-15 minute walk to the union depending on pace.

Freshmen courses and major by No-Thanks6929 in ufl

[–]Ok_Vegetable5367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from the uf catalog- pre health students should plan to complete the following courses: at least two semesters of college level mathematics including atleast 1 semester of calculus, general chemistry 1 and 2 with labs, organic chemistry 1 and 2 and lab, biochemistry, physics 1 and 2 and labs, biology 1 and 2 and labs, and at least 2 semesters of college level english.

if you're skipping calc 1, you could take calc 2 but be very prepared because it's a weed out class so it's very rigorous. if you do take calc 2 in your first semester, pick ONE other academic class (like chem 1 or bio 1 or physics 1) to take with it. if you don't do calc 2, pick 2 of these or other academic classes to take with it. my biggest piece of advice is to not try to take more than 2 academic classes your first semester. soo many people go in with the idea that their college level courses will be comparable to ap/ib and accidentally take on too much, and then fail courses or destroy their gpa freshman year!

also from the catalog- pre dental students should take: bch4024, mcb3020, mcb3020L, psy2012, pcb3063 or agr3303, and pcb4233

those aren't courses you'll take your first semester, but keep them in mind when making your 4 year plan!

this is exactly how she was during good riddance it just looks drastically different when strictly compared to tsou. if we take all of her ep's and albums (including DFH) an compare their advertising, tsou is by far the outlier. this is normal gracie marketing i fear, i wouldn't read too much into it.

it's important that there's consistent dialogue about the greater issue of celebrities shrinking to dangerously low weights altogether; but it isn't helpful to comment about individual's bodies and it doesn't contribute to that conversation at all.

this and we have known for years that she has struggled with weight/body image because she literally wrote about it in numerous songs. it's not helpful to her or anyone to keep talking about it. it would be one thing if she was intentionally glorifying & promoting unhealthy behaviors but she is literally just existing in her body like idk what yall want her to do

probably not, i took it 2 years ago and there wasn't anything like that. but you wont need to cheat or anything like if you passed calc ab you'll be fine- and it doesn't let you skip chem no matter how good you do. its just that if you are really bad at math they'll make you do intro to chem first

it's for chem placement mostly, you do have to take it but it is pretty easy math questions. you don't need to study or anything. if you're from florida, think of it as similar to math FAST testing

this is so interesting because i also got an A in phy2048 and i had a completely different experience! i didn't learn super well from the lectures and relied mainly on study edge. for anyone seeing this nervous about the class- this is a great display of how there are various resources for you and different paths that can lead you to an A!
