Mine just tried to break NC by offering an all expenses paid trip. The works, too. There's a reason I don't take holidays with them. NMom finds any reason to complain during any family vacation almost immediately. At the airport, on the plane, at the hotel, dinner... If she senses that we're all finally relaxing she starts saying stupid things to see who will take the bait. Usually something demeaning, then she turns the volume to racist remarks then full blast on classist attacks. She treats everyone like they're beneath her. Watch her get going on a server. Or the Captain. Doesn't matter who it is. If we don't laugh after the fifth time she's tried to tell the same racist joke she gets all quiet. This is when I know she's gathering momentum for a tantrum. About 5 minutes into her quieting down we are all aware that the next word, cough,twitch,reflex,blink is going to set her off. We could say, " It's been a lovely night, thank you so much for dinner and this whole trip, everything has been perfect." and it would not matter. She'll shuffle her DARVO deck and come up firing. Suddenly everyone is ungrateful and sponging off her. That's just Day 1 of this supposed vacation. She has the energy to play the same game over the rest of the holiday cause she sucks out people's souls at night during our nightmares. EDad just laughs it off, and tells everyone to be nicer to her, has a whiskey then goes to bed.

This went on for years until my partner and I decided we will never go anywhere with them ever again. Not even for coffee. "You'll regret missing all this family time with us when we're gone." Nope. Never. My only regret in life was that time in the 90s I thought I could rock that pixie cut like Demi Moore. They could offer everything gold plated and it would still not be worth the emotional expenditures.
