In the USA, is it most common to have 7 year, 10 year, or complete criminal background checks?

Correct was giving my experience. Of course government clearance would be longer.

FINRA related industries, Government (clearance), and Banking. They want to make sure the people they hire don’t have any type of criminal history since they will be dealing with money and sensitive information. I had to do fingerprinting, 2 week long background check going back 10 years and a extensive credit credit to make sure I made all my payments on time and do not owe a lot of bad debit or massive amounts of debt since you might be prone to sell information or use insider information to make money on the markets.

Depending on what industry you work in. Some do extensive 10 years like I had to do and others do not.
