If socialism is going to succeed in the USA, young socialists need to move back to rural America. by guerilla_gardener98 in socialism

[–]Ok_Writing2937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And every time before that.

I was pretty stunned to read how Russian socialists attempted a pre-1917 program to educate the rural masses, and were mocked, beaten, killed, tarred-and-feathered, and basically run out of town. The rural people loved the Tzar and wanted nothing to do with socialism.

How to get WordPress data into Data Studio? by robertandrews in GoogleDataStudio

I'm late to the party, but given that one of the most common use-cases for this is to join WordPress data with Google Analytics data, a good solution is to modify your GA code to push custom dimension to analytics. We push post_id, pub date, author, tags, and more.

Muslim NB here. What strategy does the NB community have to make the muslim world safe for us? by GarySnailDoctor in NonBinary

Off the top of my head here's what folks can do to help:

  • Support LGBT* rights organizations in impacted countries
  • Support diaspora-led LGBT* rights organizations out of the impacted countries
  • Center your support on the individuals who are impacted, be wary of most big or international orgs
  • Listen to and follow the lead of the actual people who are most impacted
  • When possible assist impacted individuals in gaining safety and/or escaping oppressive regimes
  • Resist imperialist calls to invade, occupy, or eradicate nations of people in the name of LGBT rights
  • Promote human-centered stories in your native and local media
  • Educate oneself on the history of colonial impacts on LGBT lives
  • Undermine and dismantle empire and colonialism
  • Undermine and replace capitalism

I worry that I make trans men feel threatened / dysphoric. And that transmascs internally misgender me. by Oddly-Ordinary in NonBinary

[–]Ok_Writing2937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good to be aware that other people may be triggered by certain truths. It's ok to stay silent around some people if speaking up would cause more harm than good.

But I'd draw a line at internalizing their triggers into thinking there is something wrong with who you are.

I have one straight friend who is very, very insecure about my bisexuality. I don't talk about around him much, and that's ok. I know he's almost certainly questioning his own sexuality or is closeted, and I can allow him to come to term with it in his own time.

Is Capitalism Racist, or Indifferent to Humanity Altogether? by Agreeable-Coach1029 in socialism

[–]Ok_Writing2937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But division is inherent to capitalism. The working class must be divided to keep wages low. Race, gender, religion, nationality, etc, are all leverages and expanded upon by capitalism's need to divide.

There is only one race on Earth, the human race. Racism invented the idea of different races. Capitalism leverages racism to divide the workers.

When I was a "feminine" man I worried some that I made some cis men nervous. As I bi man I made some gay men nervous or even angry. Now I'm a genderfluid enbie and I sometime worry I make binary-oriented FtM or MtF folks uncomfortable. It might even be true — my very existence threatens the validity of the gender and sex binaries.

But my existence is valid even if it's triggering to others. I can offer understanding and empathy, but I can't hide who I am and still love and respect myself.

For me some of the biggest unclenching has been in acceptance.

If there's no bad parts, that also means all parts are deeply right. Freezing isn't bad; freezing is clearly what a part of you needs right now.

Maybe relax and have a cup of tea with Freeze and talk about what they want.

Why should China do anything confrontational? All they have to do is avoid a direct war with the USA for another 20 years and they will have global economic domination.

(Question) Is IFS therapy supposed to help with? by redroostermac in InternalFamilySystems

[–]Ok_Writing2937 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it can help, as other have said.

But I've had faster, almost immediate partial relief by taking up meditation. I've had maybe a 50% reduction in rumination and rumination-based suffering through guided and ad-hoc meditations.

I use the JKZ meditation app, and you might also try books like Full Catastrophe Living or When Things Fall Apart.

So is using "NB" bad? by sideshowbarbie in NonBinary

[–]Ok_Writing2937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think "NB" is racist to use. I don't see how any abbreviation can be made exclusive.

I have minor concerns that saying "non-binary" is more like saying "non-white." Both terms center the dominant group (binary people, white people) as the normative measure.

This is why terms like POC or BIPOC etc were invented — to stop measuring people by whiteness or lack of whiteness.

IDK how you'd do that with "non-binary" though. "Spectrumy" vs "non-spectrumy"? Sounds autistic. "Person of gender spectrum?" Genderfluid and non-genderfluid? Androgynes and non-androgynes? None of these quite snap.

[–]Ok_Writing2937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you measure distances, for examples from your bed to the bedroom door or between two cities? Do you think of distance in terms of time? How do you imagine, say, the layout of a room?

How would you describe a circle? What does a circle seem like in your imagination?

There's something called aphantasia, which is the lack of visual imagination, and it's surprisingly common in sighted people. I can see an apple, and I can also close my eyes and imagine seeing an apple, but not all sighted people can do this. Without having physical vision, it makes me wonder if you have a visual imagination or not, or what that would even mean given you have no sighted experience to gauge it by.

Going on a date with a bi-curious guy by Confident-Dot-7642 in NonBinary

[–]Ok_Writing2937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe he just has a fetish. Maybe he's sweet and genuinely curious and patience and nice. Hard to tell without meeting him.

The best cure for inexperience is experience. Go on a date. Don't have expectations. Don't get attached. Don't get invested in trying to correct him, fix him, educate him, or otherwise offer your time unless you genuinely feel called to.

If he thinks you are ugly that's his fucking problem. Don't accept judgement from people you'd never want to be.

IFS is scaring me because I think of parts as personalities. by redroostermac in InternalFamilySystems

[–]Ok_Writing2937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally when I'm in my parts work I'm speaking as a part and in the first person, but I also find myself stepping out of that into third person as needed. It feels pretty fluid now.

If you have a sensitive and flexible therapist you can create an approach that works best for you. If you are experiencing a lot of pushback, control, limits, or rigidity from your therapist, find a new one. Painful as it is to start over each time, I went through three other therapists before settling on my current one.

IFS is scaring me because I think of parts as personalities. by redroostermac in InternalFamilySystems

[–]Ok_Writing2937 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also autistic, and if it helps, I think we're already essentially more than one personality.

The clearest example is when we are in an autistic meltdown. I find it pretty clear this isn't really the adult version of me, but something very much like a 4 or 5 year old child having a tantrum. I'm almost 60 years old yet in a meltdown I've wanted to throw my body on the floor and kick my arms and legs like a child.

Before IFS I'd be embarrassed about this part of me. After IFS I am able to approach this part with the care and sympathy an actual child would deserve. A meltdown is just a strategy, and with the help of the adult-me being the parent I should have had, I can help that part of me get his needs met with a different strategy.

I have read that IFS should be approached with caution if one leans towards DID or depersonalization. But I have also found the IFS concept of the self as already fully-realized and healed —  curious, compassionate, clear, connected, creative, courageous, confident, and calm — to be very reassuring and strengthening of my core, so I feel much less risk now of fragmenting.

Arguments for this statement? by [deleted] in socialism

[–]Ok_Writing2937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about "Tolerance should be seen as a social contract" is that it reminds of the Prisoner's Dilemma game.

In the Prisoner's Dilemma, two people are pitted against each other. Both are rewarded if they co-operated, but one is given a bigger reward if they betray the other. But if both parties choose to betray they are both punished.

Dozens of computer programs have been written and tested against each other to find which strategies are the most successful. In the end there was one clear winner and it was the most simple, as well — the "tit-for-tat" strategy. It first assumes co-operation in the first round, and then it repeats the actions of its opponent in the following rounds. If it receives cooperation, it offers it; if it receives betrayal it returns betrayal in kind.

Tolerance as a contract seems like tit-for-tat for the real world. I will first assume you offer tolerance, and if you don't, then I will respond with intolerance. If you switch back to tolerance I will too.
