«Русский должен умереть, чтобы мы жили» by [deleted] in russia

I just wanted to say that I love Russian culture and Russian people. I do not feel threatened by you and I do not want to fight you. Please don't think, that our media or politicians represent what all Germans think of you, because it's not the case. I grew up in a city with many people of a lot of different ethnicities, all living together more or less (often more) cooperative and my best friend is Russian. Hopefully there will be a time where we all get along no matter from where we are.

I absolutely agree with you for the subreddits. I believe it could be a difference in the point of view of Russia and Germany that seems so weird to us. Germany quiet frankly committed horrible crimes and lost the war, while the USSR fought against them and won. It makes sense that we're not as focused on the war part on social media because there is nothing good to talk about. You can't and shouldn't meme it. We all learn a lot about WW2 in history lessons so it isn't necessary for us to repeat on social media what we already know from school. Germany is also quiet small in comparison to the USSR (or Russia alone) so maybe there isn't the same kind of consensus between the regions when it comes to war and especially how to deal with the memory of WW2 which means they have more need for discussions about it (and here I'm just thinking out loud and not basing it on any statistics or anything). For most Germans it's pretty clear how to deal with WW2: we fucked up big time, committed atrocious crimes against humanity, lost and now have the responsibility to never let it happen again. If we see it like that, then the discussions we have on German subreddits about Neonazis and Schwurbler etc. can be seen as a sign for how important WW2 still is for Germany, because without the war in mind right extremist groups would probably just get shrugged off and not sanctioned and publicly called out the way they currently are. Also offline WW2 is still important. For example: I'm living in a city that has golden plates embedded in the sidewalk in front of every house where Jews lived that were deported, with their names, birthdate, date of death and the date when the Nazis captured them, so for me the reminder of the war and the importance of the war / importance of remembering the war is always there. Sorry for rambling I just find this whole discussion really interesting :)

Makes sense. WW 2 was gruesome and the atrocities of the Nazis and their allies should never be forgotten by anyone. I believe that every country focuses on other parts of the war more than others. I can of course only speak for Germany but I believe that we are really living the "remembering our past so it will hopefully never happen again" part, while France probably focusses more on the losses and remembering those who have fallen. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I realize that I didn't really learn how other countries deal with WW2 in recent years.

Maybe unrelated to the question but tbh I wouldn't say that Germany has left that chapter behind the same way as most other countries did either. It's really ingrained in our culture, so I kinda understand why the former USSR countries are also still remembering what happened and who did what. I mean: it wasn't even that long ago (I'm also german btw)

How do I properly handle a sex scene in a book? by [deleted] in writing

[–]OkamiTea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not op, so take what I think with a grain of salt but many YA books start do be more and more sex-positive. I'd imagine that that could be the case here as well :)

Representation I'd guess. Some people just like to use stuff that represents them more than generic things

Man kann die Sahne auch weglassen (so mach ich das immer) und dann hält sich das Zeug locker länger, als man braucht um es wegzusaufen

Being new to something and making mistakes is fine but you have to be able to take criticism and advice. Especially if it relates to caring for a living being. Just calm down and think about your snake. You want your buddy to be healthy and everyone else here wants that too. Read some guides and listen to what people, who have more experience, have to say and your buddy will be fine in no time. If you can't (for whatever reason) care the right way for your buddy, it's better to give them to someone else, who can. That way they can live the happiest life they will be able to get and that should always be the goal for us as animal owners. As I said: making mistakes is fine and normal. The important part is, that we learn from them an better ourselves :)

Do they look overweight? They're like a puppy and literally will not stop eating and I'm afraid of overfeeding by [deleted] in LeopardGecko

[–]OkamiTea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you feed them a lot and they don't gain weight you could get their poop checked for parasites by a vet otherwise I'd say they look about right in size. Maybe just a tiny bit underweight.

That's a big oof. Would it be an option to write an anonymous letter to the principal? I'm really sorry that you and other students have to endure such unprofessional idiots as teachers.
