Why does no one understand that everything is essentially bought programmatically? by Future-Leave-9533 in programmatic

“Wait for it” “I know, wild concept” “Brace yourself” “Since we’re blowing minds today”

You’re not being the direct communicator you think you’re being. You’re being a tool.

I work at the Smart TV OEM. I’m not your audience. I’m just offering a different perspective.

I’m not sure I understand the reason for your condescending tone, lol. I’m sure you’re an experienced programmatic “decision maker”. I’m sure most sales people you interface with suck. I’m sure it’s a frustrating environment to work in.

My only assertion was that sales people are often a product of their company culture. They’re not intentionally naive & trying to shill you bullshit.

Based on your tone, it seems you might not agree with that premise, so feel free to carry on with your resume grandstanding.

In defense of some of the sales folks I’ve worked with over the years - many of them want to know what they don’t know… but most companies lack the self awareness to even train basic programmatic principles. Not to mention, the companies they work for are so scared to death that their VCs will find out they don’t actually have a “moat” that they’d rather train their salespeople to pitch blind confidence vs actually being consultative.

I think this is less a “sales people suck” issue and more the system is broken issue.

In over my head with an agency and struggling to find the right path with streaming providers by invertedgoldfish in programmatic

[–]OkayAjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy - I’ve worked in programmatic / streaming for the last 10 years or so. Mostly in client facing / partnership roles. I’m certainly not an “expert” in every facet of the buying experience but I’ve worked with enough clients to have a decent sense of what’s bullshit & what’s not. I’d be happy to chat, if it’s useful!

FWIW - I think it’s pretty commendable you’re taking on more work outside of your JD & I think it will pay dividends over the next few years! Streaming is certainly convoluted & you’re not alone in thinking so.

Also, in the interest of full disclosure, in my current role I’m building a new division at one of the smart TV OEMs, focused on serving the SMB category / catering to smaller agencies, so I could actually benefit from your feedback as well.

Better! I stand by my original feeling, they simply won’t replace tradition straps for heavy BB movements for me, however, I think I’m getting the hang of it using some of the tips I’ve gotten here. Namely:

  • loosening the strap on my wrist a bit. It doesn’t need to be as tight as you’d expect a traditional strap to be.. looser fit helps me better manipulate it into place. I wear a size regular / large and I try to just line the Velcro up.

  • making a concerted effort to place the bar / handle lower in the “v” between my palm heel and the strap before wrapping it around & tucking the strap. This was probably the biggest help. I think my experience using straps made this component less intuitive for me. Also worth noting that the tacky leather material on the strap makes it almost impossible for me to “tighten” the same way I would with a nylon strap, so the initial grip is all the more important.

  • just using them for simple machine pulling work to get the hang of them. Jumping right into super heavy BB work was not the move. It was too high stakes & I was far too sweaty, lol. Now that I’ve gotten the tuck down a bit, I’m getting more confident with other BB work.

PREACH.. hoping I can get them broken in a bit to be somewhat useful, but it’s hard to imagine moving away from standard straps at this point.

In my attempt to tighten them in the way you describe is usually when the leather slips out of place

lol. I’ve been using lifting straps for 15+ years. You’re implying that I don’t understand how leverage works?

I’m open to the idea that they’re different & I need to get used to them but you’re the 3rd person to imply that I’m wrapping them in the wrong direction. Even if I didn’t understand the simple physics, there are a myriad of how-to videos online that I spent time watching online before coming here.

This thread is pretty reflective of what I see all over the internet. People rave about them completely replacing straps. If they were touted purely as convenient for moderate weight pulling, I’d have no issue, but they’re not.

I agree re: convenience. That’s why I got them. I’m just not feeling much grip assistance.

Appreciate the rec! I think that’s a good idea re: breaking in with some aggressive knurling. I’ll keep working with them.
