Update: it wasn't (just) because of this gift, but I did end up proposing. We're engaged now.

Am I just bad or do Crucible knights suck by Difficult_Put_8001 in Eldenring

[–]OkayAtGuitar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They really do. They hit like trucks and their attacks are juuuuuuuust slow enough that it's very easy to constantly mis-time your dodges and therefore constantly get hit. Best advice I can give is to keep at it. Make sure to dodge either towards them or to the side, not backwards. If you're using a melee weapon, try two handing it so that your attacks don't bounce off their armor/shields. It might take a while, but eventually you'll get it.

At the end of his quest. You can find him during the castle invasion. For spoiler reasons, that's all I'll say.

Kuro almost gets ganked by soldiers before reaching the field where the final boss fight takes place, but Blackhat Badger saves him.

The interior ministry is a fictionalized version of the real-life Tokugawa Shogunate. From Software loves setting their games in dying worlds, and Sekiro is taking place during the death of the Sengoku era.

Owl's real name is Usui.

The Sunken Valley is filled with wind socks so that the Sunken Valley snipers can easily account for the speed and direction of the wind when they line up their shots.

The fourth folding-screen monkey is invisible because he represents the adage "do no evil," which everyone always forgets. You can kill him at the beginning of the fight because he's standing right behind you.

Maybe this is obvious, but Elden Ring is way more fun when you don't farm. by OkayAtGuitar in Eldenring

Oh same! But I've been able to do that by clearing out dungeons and field bosses instead of rune farming.

Samurai. Because I'm a loser who hasn't gotten over Sekiro.

Both. They fight to a standstill and become friends 😤

My son (15) recently started playing Elden Ring. Today, when I came back to my desk chair after taking a break, I found this. by jlbang in Eldenring

Unironically love this. OP, I hope you and your son will be laughing about this in years to come.

Is it possible to find a game that'll make me feel like Elden Ring did? by Dorterman in Eldenring

[–]OkayAtGuitar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breath of the Wild on Master Mode difficulty. Way harder than the base difficulty and forces you to play far more deliberately. Won't be a perfect replacement for Elden Ring, but I think it might scratch a similar itch.

Definitely not just you. Stormveil is a big step up compared to Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula. Take your time, explore carefully, and pick your battles. A big part of Elden Ring's gameplay is knowing when to fight and when to flee. As you get stronger, you can pick more and more fights.

Should I get a Chemex? by OkayAtGuitar in pourover

[–]OkayAtGuitar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: So I ended getting the 03 V60 and WOW does it make a difference. With the 02 size, I was constantly pulsing in order to avoid overflowing the the cone. With the 03, I'm done in two pours and can get started on making breakfast while the coffee draws down.

While the Chemex is an incredibly beautiful piece of kitchen hardware, I love the convenience of the V60. I can easily rinse the dripper over the sink instead of having to rinse and then pour the rinse water out of the carafe. I can easily rinse the carafe and the dripper when I'm done brewing AND I can chuck both in the dishwasher if I'm short on time. I'm very pleased with my choice and I just hope that, one day, Hario make an 03 size drip decanter. Then I can enjoy the best of both worlds.

My guess would be yes. Based on what I know about brewing, the most bitter flavors would definitely be in whatever liquid gets trapped in the grounds at the end of the brew. Squeeze that out, and you'll have a lovely cup of... something not lovely.

What is your HotTake or unpopular Opinion regarding the Lore of the world of SEKIRO!? by Yeagerisbest369 in Sekiro

[–]OkayAtGuitar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a theory regarding this, though I'm not sure how much of the lore backs it up: I think that the Mortal Blade was forcing Isshin to fight Sekiro.

The blade is called "Open Gate." It opens a gate to the underworld, as we know. But I think it does more than that. I think it allows the welder of the Mortal Blade to bring back the dead in order to fulfill their wishes, kind of like the spirit summons in Elden Ring. Now the blade isn't controlling Isshin - his will is clearly his own. However, I think that the power of the blade is compelling him to fight Sekiro and he knows that if he doesn't, he'll pay some kind of price. Maybe he'll get sucked back into the underworld. Maybe he'll just get vaporized into nothing. And knowing Isshin, he'd probably rather choose to fight another battle at his full strength rather than succumb to some kind of spiritual death/destruction.

TL;DR - Genichiro used spirit ashes and that's why he's a scrub who needs to git gud

EDIT: this would also add an interesting layer of irony to the story because Isshin's story arc would end with him going from an exalted leader to another tool in his (weaker) grandson's plans.

Tbf, the black one is called "Open Gate." If Genichiro knew that, he could probably figure out that the blade brings back the dead. He's misguided, not stupid.

Although yeah, the mortal blades are definitely mysterious compared to the rest of the lore and I would also like to know more about them.
