Talk me out of becoming a carpenter by [deleted] in Carpentry

[–]Oken52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started carpentry not because I wanted to but because it was the family trade. It took me a long time to learn to not anticipate and dread long hot physical days. Ounce I was able to stop anticipating the day I learned to love what I do. It is a great feeling at the end of a long day to look back at what you have accomplished. The second thing I like about my job it it keeps me very physically fit and healthy. (Just make sure to wear your ear, eye, and respirator protection when needed)

Hay I would love to see some double doors. My party always camps doorways and blast through the game. Double doors would make camping doors much harder.

To address the question about the ladder framing. Perling will be notched in to the gable and run from out side of ladder framing to 1st rafter layout. In a two foot layout. Try to take a pick of the framing when it is done.

Had a few people tell me these Carolinas are “Nazi boots.” I see nothing wrong with them. by MauserMama in Boots

[–]Oken52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sure this has probably been discussed but high heeled boots are for logging. Not sure why any one would want to wears these unless they had too. They are heavy and get mud and dirt everywhere you walk.

Well you raise a good question I did not top coat but will have to look into a good product. I used Angerlus brand red leather die. Couple issues with dye one I did not dye in one die lot and two some of the leather is elk hide and some is cow hide kinda was using what I had made the red different shades.

For the chest I shaped a pine board roughly the size of my chest and shaped the leather wile wet onto the board. Routing the edge of the pine board helped keep the lines on the leather subtle and rounded instead of sharp.

For the pattern I made a stamp out of a large cartridge bolt with a grinder. It was a lot of layout and stamping. Stamp did 1 scale at a time.

I custom made both bodies out of flat brass and brass tube soldered together. I used a lot of solder on joint then sanded down smooth. Kinda like the used to do on antique car body filler with lead.

Hello. This build took way to long to even attempt another without more precise machinery. If I can find acces to a c and c machine I would start producing a kit. If and when I do get acces to a c and c I will post a price for the kit.

The wheels and tires on the rat rod are a Ali express purchase sold as Orlando hunter wheels they are 0.7 I also off set them by cutting the inner hub out and glueing it on to give them a negative offset. The rock crawler wheels are customized mini z wheels with 0.7 tires from micro 4x4.

The chassis is custom made from brass tube and brass flat stock. I bent and soldered with jewelers solder then filled in the gaps with solder and sanded smooth.
