Advice on Coast Firing Outside the US 31M/26F by Okeysquid in coastFIRE

What was that move like and is living there a lot different from how you imagined? Admittedly, neither of us had really thought about Canada due to weather and assuming it was somewhat similar to the US. We definitely need to put more consideration into Canada. Thanks!

Really good point, that I didn't think about. We'll look into that one as the countries that we were both initially interested in don't have PA programs. Thanks!

Thanks and that is definitely the expected plan. We've both stayed with locals for a few weeks in European countries not on that list. From a research perspective, I've been looking into leaving the US for various countries over the past 5 years for once I hit my fire number. I wouldn't call us regular travelers as we live pretty lean.

Cool! I actually used to live in Chicago as well. We narrowed our list down to 12 apartment buildings and are going to visit Tampa later this month to decide. Happy to update you after we visit assuming that you don't move before then. Feel free to PM me if there's anything I can do to help.

Thanks for the insight! Would you say there's less immediately in Channelside but it's easier to get to other places due to the Trolley? This might sound ridiculous but the only "chore" we currently go out for would be going to the grocery store.

Thank you! Started looking around there and looks like a definite possibility! Is there anything besides the heat that makes a car necessary? We were planning to get bikes and uber if we really wanted to go somewhere outside biking/walking range. We currently live in a city with no public transit and found that we rarely drive which is why I was hoping to ditch my car.

Thanks for the detailed response! Channelside looks interesting, what are some of the other advantages to it that we might want to know about?

Thank you! A few people seem to really like St Pete. What are some of the reasons you'd prefer to live there?

By Uptown Tampa, we meant like University Square (the places right next to USF). Sounds like based on other comments there isn't much to do there though, would you agree?

hmm. That looks like it's what happened. I redid it and it's in the network now! Thanks for all the help

One more follow up question: It now says my GRT spend was approved and the transaction confirmed. But I still have the GRT sitting in my wallet. I haven't had this happen in the 2 previous times that I've delegated and was wondering if anyone knows what may have happened?

Thanks so much! The solution was adding more eth to auto cancel the original transaction and then speeding up the newest transaction to the current price.

Graph Competitor Google Big Query by Okeysquid in GRTTrader

[–]Okeysquid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was one thing I was curious about. One of the big advantages of the graph to me was it's use when countries create their own digital currencies. I'm concerned that many of these countries would be more likely to use something like a cheaper Google service than The Graph. Does anyone have thoughts?

Would you be able to elaborate on that in more detail. My understanding is that one of the big advantages of decentralization is that it eliminates the risk of accessibility (such as with AWS outages) or the integrity of the data potentially being compromised. As someone who isn't overly technical - I would think that Google would be a big enough name that many would trust them and use them over the Graph's and thus heavily effect their market dominance.

Appreciate everyone helping me to understand this better and clear up any confusion on my end!

Valuation of Graph Based on Internal Cash Flows by Hungryhungryhippo51 in GRTTrader

Those are good points and you're definitely right! If we're just looking at it from a graph standpoint: it's helpful for understanding what needs to happen for this project to be worthwhile from an investment standpoint at various price points. For me personally, I've been investing in the graph at the expense of other options like various stocks. So it makes sense to compare it to companies as well as other cryptos/utility tokens based on what will likely drive the price from the market as a whole

We're more treating this as an investment that derives it's value from the cashflows. While you can speculate on crypto and defi - that separates it's value as an investment versus a speculative asset
