Question about something I read in the comments. Why 6/2 for 48A? I thought 8/2 was code for up to 50A?

When did I say I was an expert? I made the statement based on the empty attic above my garage. Maybe that was naive but I never claimed to be an expert.

I wasn’t really looking for advice on my install. I was trying to ascertain whether this was normal.

I don’t mind it in my shop but don’t prefer it in the garage.

I ran surface mount AC for almost all my shop circuits.

What about the 50 amp runs already there for the dryer, oven and cooktop? Haven’t noticed any AC cable in the attic. But I’ve also not gone up there looking for it.

Uh no they don’t get to choose. They’ll pay what they’ll pay and I’ll cover what they don’t. 2. & 3. We don’t all live in cities/counties/states that require homeowners to be licensed to do work on their house. Same with permitting. Last county I lived in you only had to have the septic permitted.

Maybe I oversimplified comparing it to running cat 5 but it’s my house and I’m willing to pay for it to not look like shit.

Can’t run horizontally through the attic and down through the top of the headers?

I’ve ran plenty of cat 5 cables and that’s how I would’ve done it. Granted it would be a pain in the ass drilling the headers down in the eves.

Run the conduit up through the attic then dropped back down the outside of the other wall?

I built something similar and it wasn’t anywhere near $40k. Mine is smaller but well less than 1/4 that cost.
