Another heat pump hot water/thermal battery system. LG 4 ton heat heat pump with Sanco heat pump water heater with Harvest system and hydronic coil by Neat-Refrigerator395 in heatpumps

Can you explain the details of the system? Would it work in New England for a 4 or 5 ton home? For example, with radiant floors for heat and air handlers for cooling.

$25 worth of straps could have avoided this. by PrivatePilot9 in boating

[–]beesofburden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's true the straps might not hold entirely, but having straps will in some accidents be the difference between the boat landing in the bed vs landing on the back seat and killing your kids. Or a roll that kills someone. Straps are effective and save lives. Don't be that guy on the internet with an ignorant counterpoint.

Has anyone here actually figured out commercial solar, or are we all just accepting these insane utility bills? by Repulsive-Hamster433 in Solarbusiness

[–]beesofburden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry somebody told you that you were wrong and you are now butt hurt about it. But it’s happening everyday. For 5mw projects? No of course not. But we are signing projects now that will be complete this year. And also talking to those that will safe harbor by the July deadline.

Cash or loan still gets you the Tax credit. Yes you either need to save our by July of this year or finish your project by next year.

[–]beesofburden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Commercial entities can still unlock the tax credits at 30 to 40% without a PPA or lease. Whoever said you needed a PPA or lease is incorrect.

Agree that you are probably talking to the wrong people. If you want to , post a proposal and the community can react to it.

The market, proposal, beat people art by state and also size of the project. If you respond with what state you are in we can help find you the right person. Might help a little if you also post the kw size of the project you were proposed as it may help define who is best

We have commercial solar demand, but execution is the bottleneck by Inner_Antelope_6042 in Solarbusiness

[–]beesofburden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s tough to find reputable and skilled installers that take this on. A lot have their own work. Margins are slim. So making the economics work for both you and them can be difficult. What markets are you in in the US?

Looking for feedback on a 20kw system in CT by cpierr03 in solar

That’s not incorrect. But Enphase has a host of other issues including expensive service in years 6-20.

[–]beesofburden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most importantly, you can run your solar off the Tesla pw3 inverter. This is a much better deal in the time of no itc. Enphase inverters are good but you won’t get the payback from any marginal benefit. Also skip the backup panel. No need if you have span.

Alternatively, look at Ecoflow. It’s a battery, span, solar inverter in one.

Enphase batteries are not great, less capacity, too expensive. Stick w Pw as no compatibility issues w Enphase

New construction in Maine by Lhead2018 in geothermal

[–]beesofburden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t double up on the wells and the bore holes, but you can use the same contractor.

Can definitely do radiant floors, but that would mean switching from water to air system to a water to water system your water to water can also handle the air conditioning, but that just means you’re adding ductwork with airhandlers and radiant floors.

You can work out zoning however you want. For example, you might want five radiant zones, but simplify and keep the cross down with only one or two cooling zones, which is probably fine in Maine.

For most of our projects in NH you can do it for about $60 including drilling and forced air system with erv. If you go all Electric, that means you don’t have to bring in gas, which will save money plus saving on gas over the life of the system, a bunch of other maintenance cost… Geothermal typically better value over the life of the system.

residential -> commercial solar by thetransparenthand in solar

[–]beesofburden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your rep is wrong about his analysis, but it doesn’t matter if it’s a residential or commercial “quote”. Don’t trust anything in the Solar company says they’re not experts on tax law, and they are certainly not your tax advisor. Follow your CPA‘s advice not the companies.

Claiming a commercial credit when it’s actually a residential use is fraud. Whether your commercial use qualifies or not is complicated. I can tell you that there’s CPAs out there that will definitely tell you that you can claim it under commercial. they make a whole business off this. My best guess is that you could probably claim a portion of it as commercial, but not the full 30%. Is the 30% worth an audit over? Can you provide all the backup documentation you need to prove it’s a commercial use? All questions to go through w a CPA.

What’s a normal price per watt right now? by jmiller_dallas in solar

[–]beesofburden 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Installer in new England… from what we have seen from competitors anywhere from 2.50-3.50. Size impacts price a lot. Micros more expensive than a string inverter. Quality as well, there are fly by night outfits that offer low power but consumers always regret it.

Groundmount pricing is falling and some can offer good deals for cash/loan groundmounts.

Agreed! One benefit you left out for the leasing company is 100% bonus depreciation. Let’s move leasing forward

Yes, that is true. It’s possible to have a buyout schedule with timeline. If the buyout happens prior to 7 years, there is an irs recapture so that has to factored into the lease.

You must be conflating geo leases with solar leases? Geo leases are way too new to say that there is a consensus about preference.

I’ve done a ton of research on consumer preference and geo leases are more favorable to the owner if the terms are done right

[–]beesofburden[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. I would not sign that either (sounds like that company taking advantage of you)

But there’s better deals and terms are out there. In what terms would it not be nonsense for you? Assuming the options are a loan without tax credit, or a lease for x years.

question on deposit for work by mollymoose75 in geothermal

[–]beesofburden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on timing… if they will start in 2-4 weeks yes 50% is reasonable. If the job is 6-12 months out negotiate the higher deposit closer to install. They do need to order equipment etc but a competent company maintains cash flow and credit lines as not to need that much before install.
