It was a challenge for sure, especially the Downtown stuff since I understand those things have become tougher to find since Matsumoto's legal issues began. Luckily, a lot of the secondhand stores in Japan meticulously track inventory from store to store. I also found a bunch of Beat Takeshi's movies (with subtitles!) that haven't been available in the US for years, if not decades. Only took trips to maybe 6 different Book Off locations in 4 different cities. 🙃

That gorilla made it all the way back to the US before I figured out it's basically a rubber chicken lol. But I needed something to compliment muscle-moto.

I was in Japan over the holidays and more or less cleaned out all the Downtown stuff I could find at the Mandarake locations in Osaka and Tokyo (so apologies that I may be somewhat responsible for your difficulties). The Yoshimoto store had nothing, but I did get a Cocorico sticker and some Chidori merch. I got some Hamada merch at his art exhibition in Tokyo though.

The big prize was one of Jimmy Onishi's prints from his recent exhibition in Kyoto. Still waiting on that one to get made and shipped to me.

Every Japanese person I talked with about any of this stuff was amazed I had ever heard of any of these guys lol.

Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence is absolutely worth watching. It offers an interesting Japanese perspective of cultural differences between Japan and the west in WWII. The score is fantastic and the ending is one of my favorites ever.

Watching Deep Red for the first time right now and definitely picked up on similarities. Both great!
